It's a trap!

Dec 14, 2011 00:29

Characters: Rome (dogtagcollar), Killua (kill_joo_ded), and YOUUUUU
When: After this thread.
Where: All around Ads!
Rating: PG?
Summary: Killua convinces Rome to dig pit traps around Adstring as a way to measure whether or not people are idiots. If you fall in, you are an idiot. If you don't, you're not. Rome sort of goes along with it because it kind of makes sense.

A wild pit appears! )

Killua arrived shortly after him, taking his time for once. Cradled under one armpit was a shovel and a pole, rusty but solid and stable. He grinned at the sight of the man waiting for him and raised his free arm to make himself more visible.

"Yo!"

He glanced over toward the voice, blinking for a moment- for all that the boy was young, it was surprising that he smelled so- odd. Like the wild, like this apocalyptic place, but more than anything, like blood.

Romulus found himself tensing up, waiting for a moment, assessing the threat- intuitively, he didn't think that Killua would harm him, if given the choice. He didn't seem like he had cruel intentions, just that he was a dangerous creature to tangle with- something which reminded Romulus, oddly enough, of a natural wolf.

After a short once-over, Romulus nodded, taking his eyes off of Killua to glance across the park.

"Hello. I hope you did not encounter any troubles on your way here."

Killua recognized this sort of reaction, but he acted oblivious out of respect for whatever conclusion Rome would reach. When the man didn't seem perturbed, he himself relaxed almost unnoticeably while Rome's back was turned.

"Naw, easy as cake," he shrugged lightly. "So where d'you think would be the best starting point?"

He glances around for a moment, before moving toward the entrance of the park.

"Here," he murmured quietly, crouching down and touching his finger to the dirt. "This area has the most human tracks and it smells like someone was here just a few hours ago. There is most likely a high volume of people who wander through this spot."

Vincent was usually one to walk around Adstringendum on any given day, if one could call what he did walking. It more closely resembled bounding from high structure to high structure while surveying the landscape below, and stopping whenever something caught his attention.

Killua - that he remembered from the infamous tag game that had destroyed his former house - looking like he was digging a hole was bound to ctach his attention. That, and the fact that he had apparently managed to enlist someone.

Vincent stopped in a tall tree and watched, his red cape flowing around him in conspicuous, not quite natural movements.

It was the cape that gave him away to Killua, the barely there sound of it shifting as he moved. With a small grin, he pretended he hadn't noticed, addressing Rome instead.

"So how deep is too deep?"

"We should not go deeper than a few feet. That way, they can climb on their own. I will be able to identify who has fallen in if we find a trap that has been compromised."

His eyes only glance up for a moment, before meeting Killua's again. He knows Vincent is there, he can smell him, and it's a bit unnerving, but he's confident he can deal with any dangers that present themselves.

Vincent was not sure if he'd been noticed or not, but he didn't really care. In fact, given that Killua was involved, he was starting to think he didn't want to know what was going on ... but he couldn't keep a nagging feeling that maybe, just maybe, this was something he wanted to keep an eye on.

So, he jumped down from the tree, and landed a few feet from were the two were digging.

He didn't say anything as he drew himself up to his full height again. Just looked at them silently, and waited to see if he would get an explanation. Given the way he looked, it wa soften a lot more efficient than asking questions.

Anything involving Killua with a shovel could not be good. This was the reasoning that provoked Sango, upon seeing him (and Rome, she remembered) digging holes for reasons that were not immediately apparent, to approach with caution.

"What's going on?"

He halted his progress to look up at her, frowning. Of course Sango would catch them in the act. She never had the decency to do these things the right way. Well. Maybe she'd still fall into one of the other holes... Maybe. If he hinted just right that there was only one and allayed her suspicions.

Like that was ever going to happen.

"An experiment. The results will be vitally important to how we perceive the world for the indeterminate future," he replied, flat but with a hint of defiance. Take that, Sango.

"Oh, hello."

Rome looks over toward her pleasantly. "I'm pleased that you are functioning adequately with your body back. We are attempting to give a definitive definition to the word 'dumbass' and, to a lesser degree, 'idiot'."

Oh, yes; she'd been bodyswitched with both of these two. While Rome was much more helpful than Killua's lack of cooperation, the serious way he worded it was almost comical.

"Um--yes, I'm doing fine," she answered Rome first, then added to the two of them: "You're trying to figure out who's an idiot with... holes? You're just going to wait until someone falls in and call them an idiot?"

"Conducting vitally important research." So very deadpan. He didn't even turn to face her when he spoke, only afterward as he let the digging tool rest on his shoulder.

"It is very important."

He looks up toward Rhyme earnestly.

"Subjective terms confuse me."
