Rhode had been talking to Al and Yuca, among others, over the PCDs, trying to keep her laughter from bubbling up at the whole situation. These creatures seemed so familiar, in a way. Like man-made Akuma. It was truly delightful. Monsters that would hopefully kill and hurt plenty of people before the heroes mopped them up ( ... )

The creature was low to the ground, almost crablike, and so disfigured, it's difficult to tell what it had been originally. It only had four legs, however, and the back two had joints that jutted a few feet above the flat body, ending in jagged points of bone that broke through the skin. Claws had ripped through anything remotely resembling hands that the creature had and were now piercing the floor for grip while it turned to face her.

Bulbous eyes watched Rhode, trying to comprehend the situation while the numerous spikes on it's back shifted, as if with the wind.

Abruptly, it sprang at her with powerful back legs, opening it's jagged mouth wide and exposing rows of teeth that really shouldn't be on any sort of frog.

Rhode whistled softly. It looked terrible. She was impressed. "A sick mind made you, pretty thing. ♥" She cooed. "What were you?"

Usually, in a fight, she was fast. Very fast, but she could read an opponent's mind, get a jump on their next move. Actual mindless monsters were another story, and so by the time she urged Lero--the golem still screaming for them to flee--to move, the thing was already leaping.

She didn't fear it, it was just a monster, it couldn't truly hurt this body, but she still didn't want to be damaged. She liked this dress ( ... )

Success! The angel hit the ground after a long chunk of flesh ripped off in its teeth, blood dribbling down its mouth and to the floor. However, that was hardly enough to sate it- as a matter of fact, the beast simply let Rhode's arm flop out of its mouth, as if it had no intention of eating it.

These creatures, these... things weren't trying to eat to survive. They were killing machines, nothing more, nothing less.

Letting out a croak that sounded more like a snarl, the angel vaulted itself up again, trying to reach her a second time and hit something more vital.

To say that Akira was in a right terrible mood would be an understatement. Things had been going so well in the last two days. First time he went to a festival. First time he carried someone around. First time he really talked at length with a girl. First time he actively tried to make friends. So many enjoyable things, even if he rarely admitted it to anyone. Then this had to happen. A fucking monster attack.

"Great..." he muttered, bounding across rooftops with an over-sized sword slung onto his back. Not something most normal humans could wield, with enough weight to give it cutting power just by dropping it right. A little gift from Alphonse.

"Alright!" he yelled, jumping down into one open area, "I know one of you is here! Come on out and we can make this quick. I know you're in a lotta' agony and confusion right now, and all you can probably feel is rage."

He untied the weapon and slammed it on the ground. "But it's okay. I'm gonna' put an end to it."

Won't this be a touching family reunion ( ... )

It had definitely been a canid at one time or other, that much he was certain of. That just made him even more enraged. He kept the blade perched on one shoulder, waiting for it to make a move.

"So where's your maker, pal? Don't suppose you could tell me?" he spat, "God, these things smell awful. Alright, don't keep me waitin'. Bring it on."

The creature gave Akira a quick once-over before darting in for the attack. It was fast- faster than it looked, with all its odd spikes and components, and in no time, it had closed the distance between the two of them before lunging forward with a ragged snarl, aiming to get it's layers of teeth around some part of Akira's flesh.

Hitsugaya knew there would be no difficulty in finding the creatures. They weren't exactly hard to spot, and when one was actually looking for them, they were even less so.

He was surprised at how calm he was, really. He was used these sorts of situations. Hollows were essentially mutated souls, when one got right down to it, so mutated animals weren't that far from the mark. He wasn't worried about himself, not when this was what he was trained for. He was worried about what the things could do before people got to them. Move as fast as he could; take out as many as he could. That was all he needed to do, and he could do it. No one could tell him otherwise. He was completely focused for the first time since Hinamori's death, and he wasn't going to waste it.

From roof top to roof top he went, scanning the northwestern quadrant simply because that was where his own house was.

Lo and behold, there it is. A cat, by the looks of it, though not the one that Yuca had transformed earlier. It was bigger, it had grown in size, added on the bulk of muscle and bone that made it truly formidable. Spikes and bare streaks of muscle underneath ripped skin stretched along it's body, fangs dipping down beneath its lower jaw. Most notably, however, were the two extra legs made of purely bone and muscle, between the two on either side. The extras looked far more dangerous than they should have any right to, bone shards branching off of them like a tree of sorts, before the limbs spiked down and ended in jagged claws.

The cat didn't notice him up on the rooftop, not at first, not with how fast he was going, but it was only a matter of time before it caught his scent.

They really were hideous. He'd feel sorry for the animal if he thought he had the time, but as far as he was concerned, it was already dead. His job was to make sure the dead were sent where they were meant to be - whether that be Soul Society, Hell, or anywhere in between. Even in this place, he wasn't about to slack on his duties.

There was no point in holding back. He rarely did in a real fight. He tore his zanpakutou from its sheath, releasing the spiritual pressure he'd been holding back to hide his presence. Might as well prepare before it noticed him. As soon as it did, he'd be ready.

"Souten ni zase, Hyourinmaru!"

At the words and pressure, if not the scent, the cat's head jerked upwards and it snarled, muscles coiling together to prepare to leap. Obviously, it wouldn't be able to hit the rooftop in one jump, but it came fairly close- and when it hit the wall, the cat simply dug in it's claws, shoving the points of its extra legs into the building and kept going, snarling as it ascended the wall with a frightening speed.

It seemed almost spiderlike, and when the first two paws cleared the wall, the beast seemed more than pleased enough to drag the rest of its body upward onto the rooftop and start running to get its new target within pouncing range.

Tens or hundreds, the man had said. The way he'd talked about them, they sounded far too interesting to ignore. Kamui didn't know what they were, and he didn't care in the slightest. Alphonse Elric's well-meant warnings were completely lost to him. These creatures seemed to have been created solely to be destroyed, and far be it from him to deny them that.

The masked scientist had mentioned experimentation once or twice, and now this man was making monsters with injections. Kamui wanted nothing more than to test this artificial strength. He was superior; now it was time to find out just how superior he was.

And what comes across Kamui? It's a dog, but definitely not the kind of dog anyone would want to happen upon. For one, the animal is clearly out of its mind, and for two, it has three heads.

Three. It's body was almost vulpine, stretched out behind its shoulders with a graceful slope that was somewhat obscured by the ribcage puncturing out of its skin and wrapping around its spine like some kind of twisted vine.

Kamui's got his work cut out for him, not that he won't enjoy it. The three-headed dog's skin is falling off in loose chunks, the bone of its sternum growing out to act as a breastplate of sorts against its heart. It definitely looks every bit the monster it was made out to be, and with this drooling, snarling mess its heads seemed to be into, it didn't seem like it would take long before it attacked.

A veritable cerberus. The Yato stared at it long and hard and decided he liked it. It might have made a good companion for Hinowa, had it not smelled so strongly of gore, decay, and mindless bloodlust. He didn't mind the smell, of course. But Hinowa had so little an appetite as it was. Oh well. It would just have to meet its death then.

His umbrella floated absently above him as the clouds partially obscured the sun. He fought with his bare hands, not that they weren't enough, but it meant close quarters combat. He doubted the creature would mind.

Fluidly moving into an alien martial arts stance, he smiled at the hideous monstrosity. And he motioned to it to come at him, almost as if he expected it to understand.

It snarled at the motion- whether or not the beast understood it or not wasn't really clear, but it moved anyway, quickly covering the ground between the two of them in order to get closer. The dog seemed to either only think with one brain, or really know how to cooperate with the two others, for its movements were precise, coordinated, and fluid.

The mouth on the right head opened as it got closer, exposing needle-sharp fangs and two tongues whipping about, trying to get in to take a good chunk out of his arm.

This entire situation had come as a complete surprise, of course. But what was worse was that he could have been warned. Any of them could. And Al had kept it a secret ( ... )

It's quiet, almost stealthy in its approach, noticing Negi almost immediately when he landed and watching him for movement from the darkness of the alleyway. The teeth, which had already been rather large, protruded now until it hit the ground beneath it, bone spikes arching up from its limbs over the bulk of its body and giving the normally muddy brown creature a lighter tint.

Of course, the ROUS didn't need any help from an angel serum to be fierce, but it got plenty of it anyway, making it even more efficient at what it did. Now far more sleek and streamline, the giant rat was faster and more dangerous than ever.

With a flick of its tail, it made its move, lunging to get within range to actually attack, with a ear-splitting shriek.

The shriek caught his attention, and Negi whirled around to face the threat. His eyes widened at what was suddenly in front of him; he had seen the horrible creature that the cat on the feed had turned into, but this was different in its own way. Some sort of... overgrown rat, maybe?

He held a defensive stance, knife in his right hand, left extended and below his right, side facing the creature. He appeared to do nothing, but in his mind, he was chanting an incantation as quickly as possible.

The goal was to cut out the heart or decapitate the thing. Negi could normally charge his fists with a Sagitta Magica, so a knife should be no different. With a burst of magic, the blade went alight with a crackling energy, almost static-like. If the creature got close, hopefully he could use that magic-enhanced blade to easily take it down.

I had to do it. Also, WIN. angelicmutation July 9 2010, 17:51:56 UTC
The creature hissed at the crackling of energy, eyeing Negi warily, scuttling to circle around him with a low growl. It wasn't pleased at the new development of the strange crackling thing, and it wanted it to be gone. But at the same time, the animal was now practically programmed to kill anything in its path, and Negi was no exception.

So, it was without much further thought that it lunged for him, fortified bony tail whipping out to try and strike him at the same time as it's teeth. If anything else, it figured with a primitive mind, that Negi would have at least a little difficulty trying to prevent two things from happening at once, right?
