This entire situation had come as a complete surprise, of course. But what was worse was that he could have been warned. Any of them could. And Al had kept it a secret ( ... )

It's quiet, almost stealthy in its approach, noticing Negi almost immediately when he landed and watching him for movement from the darkness of the alleyway. The teeth, which had already been rather large, protruded now until it hit the ground beneath it, bone spikes arching up from its limbs over the bulk of its body and giving the normally muddy brown creature a lighter tint.

Of course, the ROUS didn't need any help from an angel serum to be fierce, but it got plenty of it anyway, making it even more efficient at what it did. Now far more sleek and streamline, the giant rat was faster and more dangerous than ever.

With a flick of its tail, it made its move, lunging to get within range to actually attack, with a ear-splitting shriek.

The shriek caught his attention, and Negi whirled around to face the threat. His eyes widened at what was suddenly in front of him; he had seen the horrible creature that the cat on the feed had turned into, but this was different in its own way. Some sort of... overgrown rat, maybe?

He held a defensive stance, knife in his right hand, left extended and below his right, side facing the creature. He appeared to do nothing, but in his mind, he was chanting an incantation as quickly as possible.

The goal was to cut out the heart or decapitate the thing. Negi could normally charge his fists with a Sagitta Magica, so a knife should be no different. With a burst of magic, the blade went alight with a crackling energy, almost static-like. If the creature got close, hopefully he could use that magic-enhanced blade to easily take it down.

I had to do it. Also, WIN. angelicmutation July 9 2010, 17:51:56 UTC
The creature hissed at the crackling of energy, eyeing Negi warily, scuttling to circle around him with a low growl. It wasn't pleased at the new development of the strange crackling thing, and it wanted it to be gone. But at the same time, the animal was now practically programmed to kill anything in its path, and Negi was no exception.

So, it was without much further thought that it lunged for him, fortified bony tail whipping out to try and strike him at the same time as it's teeth. If anything else, it figured with a primitive mind, that Negi would have at least a little difficulty trying to prevent two things from happening at once, right?

Wrong. What the creature's primitive mind didn't know was that Negi was highly capable of cloning himself. Which he did, concentrating, a second, identical copy blurring into existance next to him, an exact duplicate right down the blade crackling with energy.

As the creature lunged, so did Negi. Except both he and the clone blurred, disappearing completely, reappearing a split second later on either side of it. Both held their blades ready, one aiming for the general area of the heart, the other aiming for the neck.

The monster seemed to be more than a little confused at the sudden disappearing act, whirling around and snapping at the air to try and see where Negi had gone off to. At the flicker of reappearance, the angel jerked away in surprise, the blows glancing off of the shoulderblade and digging into the spine. The creature gave a vile scream as blood spurted from the wounds, splattering into the Negis hands and the ground around them. The back legs fell, temporarily paralyzed as the animal took the opportunity for closeness to reach out and snap its jaws at the young man's legs.

As soon as he knew the blows hadn't landed, both Negis stepped back. Unfortunately, those jaws were snapping out quicker than expected, and they caught one in the intended target of the legs. Lucky for Negi, the clone was the one that had been hit, and it burst into a cloud of smoke, fading into the air.

Negi rolled backwards, hoping that the clone's disappearance would serve as a distraction even for just a moment. But, he held his blade ready, purposely trying to use as little magic as possible. Al had said not to wear himself out, to conserve his energy just in case, and keeping his barriers up was already taking a bit. Jaw set, he leapt forward from a crouch, again going for the heart as best he could, knife blade crackling with electricity.

The creature fell, its tail whipping out to wrap around Negi's arm even as it descended, like some kind of prehensile limb. The tail itself was stronger than it should be, and laced with tiny spikes of thornlike bone, which would probably draw blood soon.

Though that blow was indeed, the killing one, Negi should probably worry about that tail before rigamortis sets in.

Negi didn't expect that at all. With a bit of a startled shout, he jerked his arm and his knife clattered to the ground, the crackling energy sputtering out. His entire forearm was caught in the tail, the sudden movement only digging those barbs in further. He grit his teeth, waiting until the creature fell unmoving, and grasped the tail in his hand ( ... )
