We took Sircle to the vet today to get her follow up testing done. She had blood work to asses her general health and based on the results, to figure out if amputation surgery is an option. She also had a chest x-ray to see if the cancer has mastisized into her lungs. They will call us with the results on Monday. I am hoping to get a very firm ( Read more... )

Keep a record of your blood sugars to show to your new primary doctor. I'm sure with those numbers she won't have a problem doing the bloodwork you want and/or referring you to an endo.

Yeah I hope so. I decided if she refuses to refer me to an endocrinologist and if the type 1 vs type 2 issue remains unresolved I am going to formally complain and possibly file a malpractice suit for failure to diagnose. If I in fact have LADA (latent autoimmune diabetes of adulthood), a late onset version of type 1, which I highly suspect, then I should have gone on insulin right away to help preserve what beta cells I have left. I found out in my recent research that metformin and other oral medications for type 2s can cause serious metabolic disturbances for people with LADA.

There are so many reasons why it is more likely that I have LADA and not type 2, including a c-peptide test that showed low levels of c-peptide and pointed at type 1. Why my doctors have not cared to look further into this is beyond me.
