Horses are hard. This morning my trainer went out with a first time lesson student to catch a horse that normally meets you at the gate. She had to call me to bring grain out because he was running around like an idiot refusing to be caught. Ooops. It happens.
Try backing away and not asking so much of him. Pick something that is easy for him to do, reward, and quit. Make sessions short and sweet, break things down into smaller bites. Just spend some undemanding time with him.
He's trying to tell you you're asking too much and putting too much pressure on him.
Sorry if I came across as preachy or judgy. I didn't mean to.
You just seemed to be struggling with this so much, I wanted to say or do something that might make a difference for you. I know what it's like to face things like that with a horse.
IMO, more people should be more sensitive and trying to figure out what their horses' wants/needs/thoughts are. There'd be a lot more happy, healthy horses then.
Never worry about being too sensitive. Worry about being insensitive.
My problem is that a lot of the struggle is in my brain. Because of the OCD I can have bad thoughts about myself (the best way I can describe it), so I have to tease things apart sometimes. wheee.
Yes, I wish people wouldn't think of them as toys that can just be put away.
Thanks. I actually skipped the opera. ;) Then I put all three horses through the round pen Sunday. Very interesting. Tess had totally done that, Rex turned it into 10 meter circles instead of almost 20, and Zolar walked around at first like WTF is this? lol

Think about it--what exactly is in it for him?
