New: the application has been modified to permit original and alternate characters not adapted to the Harry Potter canon. A new section has been added to the guidelines to reflect the change.
Before Applying
- Prior to applying, please check that your character is not already spoken for on the Taken or Reservation lists. We also ask that you read the various information pages, paying particular attention to the Overview, Rules and FAQ.
- Applications will be reviewed as they come in. There is currently no set schedule, but we will endeavour to respond within a week of receiving the application.
- The overall character limit is five. You may play two characters from any one fandom, provided they are unlikely to interact.
- We permit one “double” per character, but you may not play both.
- We allow both fan-made AUs of existing characters, and characters created by players. For these characters, we will require a written History section.
- In terms of the game universe, these characters are classed as Outsiders. For AUs and OCs adapted to the world of Harry Potter, please refer to the section below.
- We only allow one fan-made AU per character at any one time. This includes HPAU characters.
- Player characters from games where the player character is highly customisable (such as Dragon Age) will be listed in the appropriate fandom section, but classed as OCs.
- With the exception above we do not take OCs created for existing canon worlds that are not Harry Potter.
- HPAU and HPOC refer to alternate universe (AU) and original (OC) characters adapted to the world of Harry Potter. These characters will be considered native to the setting, and would not have been affected by the spell.
- If a fan-made AU already exists for your character, we will not accept a HPAU submission.
- If applying for a Harry Potter or a HPAU character, please note that we expect the CR of any previous player to be acknowledged, as Accio! is a continuity heavy game. A list of previously played Harry Potter and HPAU characters can be found here.
- HP/HPAU/HPOC characters are also required to be in line with the game timeline, which is currently The Prisoner of Azkaban. Characters with no reason to be at Hogwarts (for example, those who are dead) will be rejected.
- As we already know the residents of Harry Potter's dormitory, we do not accept HPOC and HPAU characters as third year Gryffindor boys. Characters will instead be placed in the second most appropriate House.
- Currently, the following characters may not be apped: Albus Dumbledore, Lord Voldemort and Sirius Black.
- Other Harry Potter characters are available, regardless of whether they have been played as NPCs or not.
- Please note that when judging applications, we place the most emphasis on the personality and sample sections. However, a written history section becomes more important with AU and OC characters.
- There is no word count requirement for the samples. We only ask that you provide enough to fully demonstrate how you play the character.
- The "best/worst subject" section is to be considered a small extension of the personality section. As this section is speculative, the subject chosen does not need to be one that the character can actually take.
- We do not require justification for the choice of House. Instead, we will refer to the personality and related sections to assess suitability.
- We have two separate application forms. One is for HP/HPAU/HPOC characters, while the other is for those from other worlds. There are a few differences between them, so please ensure you use the correct one.
- We prefer applications to be submitted entirely in comments. However, you may link to your application if you so choose.
