Cost vs. Reward
Just a group question out of curiosity...
How did you decide whether your advanced degree was/is worth the cost to obtain it? (For example: if your field's general earning potential is, say, $30k/year, how did you decide it was worth 50k to get the degree?)
How do you measure whether a degree is worth the cost to obtain it? -

Academic food chain
There are a multitude of titles on a campus: TA, GSI, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Professor, University Professor, and perhaps Grand Vizir and Lord High Executioner. What do you think about this article?
On the one hand I realize that words do change through time in meaning and sometimes in spelling, but I also think that in our time of spell checking, there is no real reason to suddenly accept these mistakes when they can be more easily corrected than ever before. Also, when I am reading and I come across a misspelling like this, it completely ( Read more... )
