Sorry, but it had to be said

I have been a longtime lurker in this community, and I have watched time and time again posters get reamed for not being "cool" or "clever" enough, along with posters who clearly think they are the cleverest people in the world poke fun at their students for not living up to their higher than thou expectations. The saddest thing about all of this ( Read more... )

Wow, I'm sorry. Are you five? I'm sure you have gone to some of the best schools in the country, but they clearly haven't helped you much.

I do think posters here can get a little bit petty, but this might be the pettiest post I've seen here. So congratulations, you. <3

If it's good enough for George Eliot and Kierkegaard, and a bunch of the authors of the Bible, it is good enough for me!

Ah, but they only created it because "it had to be said!!!"

Anyway, from the way this is phrased, it sounds to me like this is an undergraduate who was lurking here probably because they are interested in graduate school ("my profs nor my graduate TAs"). That's a little comforting, as it would be pretty worrisome to imagine that an actual grad student could make such a logical fallacy ("some professors at 'the best schools in the country' don't have LJs (or don't admit to their students that they do anyway)" = all professors don't have LJs or if they do, they teach at lowly plebeians schools hahaha").

The first thing I do every semester is tell my students where to find me on livejournal, of course. I don't know why someone wouldn't admit to their students that they have LJs.

Yes, yes, I love that they created an account just to make this post.

Let's face it, LJ is a place to bitch. That's what people do around here sometimes: gripe and complain about things they would otherwise ignore. I find it humorous actually.

Also, this isn't Facebook - you can't stalk your professors on here as most people do not use their real name. Unless you know that your English professor also goes by SexKitten89, how would you "know" that they don't have an LJ? And it's not like people on this site are going to identify their university affiliation during the middle of a bitch fest.

Just my $0.02. Which apparently means nothing around here since I only have a BS. lol.

For a community so hard-pressed to point out my own lack of originality, you sure do seem fast to applaud unoriginality in beer choices!

Wow, you really care, don't you?

Hint: Most of the people here don't. Maybe you should try caring less.

Yeah, the idea of a professor telling a student that they have a livejournal is pretty amusing. But of course professors don't have private lives outside of their work. Once the students go home they're absorbed into the walls of their office and only reemerge to grade papers.

From my experience, that's what the graduate TAs are supposed to be doing.

Ooh! I'm grateful. So grateful, in fact, that I hereby offer to share the last of my Valentine's Day chocolates with you!

Being a holier-than-thou second-rate academic is hell on the back, you know.
