As the mods try to coordinate their schedules to view the mini-series for the ship-watch (babies! squee!!) let's talk about the beginnings of the show

The mini-series was okay. I mostly tell people I am trying to get to watch the show that they must watch the miniseries (duh) but that the real test of whether or not they will love the show is '33' so they need to get through that, too

You would never believe what I did. Since I was a huge Lucy Lawless fan before I became a May fangirl, I started watching everything on her IMDB list and thus decided to watch the episodes of BSG in which she had appeared (15 episodes) - starting from Final Cut, then Downloaded (horrible eppy), almost the whole first half of season 3 aaaaaand The Hub and Revelations :D I was mostly watching Lucy's scenes, but I noticed Mary and Eddie and their amazing chemistry :P I didn't know the wig was actually a wig and was wondering how her gorgeous hair turned into that. I didn't even know about the cancer. Suffice to say, I was intrigued by this show and decided to watch the whole thing from the miniseries. That was in December 2008. I waited patiently for each eppy of season 4.5 and that was a fantastic experience. I found SI and the other LJ comms in February 2009 and started reading fics like a hungry wolf xD Been following everything here ever since ^^ Always and forever an A/R shipper! And proud of it :P
I did watch the show in real time partly. It was only aired in the Netherlands till resurrection ship II, so I saw in real time till then. I didn't even know there was more, I thought it was discontinued. This was in a time where I was not yet involved in reading fanfic and desperately seeking out information on my favourite shows. This was the time when I only had three dutch channels, we lived somewhere remote without cable access.
I was really excited when I watched the mini. My brother loves sci-fi, and I was just planning on visiting a friend when he said, you should watch this, there's a new version of battlestar galactica (we watched the original version together). I said okay, and stayed in. We both loved it and saw every ep.
It was great spotting the differences between the original, and it just looked so good! I mean we watched every sci-fi show there was on, but this was really different. It was new.
I can't really remember if I saw the sparks in the mini, but I remember there was something there.
I loooooooooooved the mini (no secret there -- I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it more than once). It's actually my favorite "episode" -- I feel like it has a bit of everything and holds together as a whole really well. I was just captivated. I think I was irrevocably hooked after Starbuck crashed on the red planet, though -- that was the point at which I couldn't pretend I wasn't obsessed anymore. Before that, I'd loved what I'd seen, but I think I could've technically still been considered sane. ;)
I did not watch it in real time, but I did start with the mini and watch straight through chronologically. And the thing about watching it after the whole thing aired is that I knew they became a couple, so I knew it was worth hanging around for. I saw sparks, but in that way of "these two totally fit together perfectly and I'm gonna ship the hell out of them long before they actually figure it out" -- but not sparks in the sense that I thought they were flirting and already attracted or anything.
no watching in real time but marathoning in 5 days yes \o/
the mini was all kind of awesome because as soon as i heard the drums i was hooked XD LOL no really, i started thinking wow i'm going to love starbuck and lee! but... nope
