Hospital, again

This past Saturday, Carl was readmitted to the hospital. He had been in pain for a week, but it had gotten so bad, that he could barely move, requiring an ambulance to come. The members of the ambulance squad, in turn, had to attach him to a chair lift and carry him -- VERY slowly -- down stairs. It was easily the worst pain I have ever seen Carl ( Read more... )

Sciatica is nasty shit. I've had two good friends suffer from it. Happily, one was eventually able to find something she could take long term that seems to have taken care of most of her issues.

I admit, I had much the same reaction when I got the news. After seeing my stepmom keep ending up back in the hospital for one thing after another, I resolved to begin taking better care of yourself. You can't necessarily do anything to prevent most afflictions, but being in good shape will make dealing with them easier (as I learned to my cost when I broke my foot).

Having dealt with severe sciatica on more than a few occasions, I can sympathize with Carl. It's horrid pain, as my latest run-in and required surgery can attest to. I will never recover fully from it. If his issues stem from acute problems like spinal stenosis or herniated discs, he might be best off having these taken care of surgically, because these can become worse with time.

Hugs to you both.

I've had more than my own share of back pain.

I hope Carl can find some relief.

It ain't fun, and it really screws things up.
