I too hope that you will nurse Carl back to splendid health. In all the appropriate ways and then once he's well in all the inappropriate ways! :-)

As for the phone, I reiterate my suggestion that you put it on a chain, tether, etc. and said leash then be fastened to you. Perhaps the biker chain wallet idea?

p.s. For some reason thinking about Peoria and public transportation in the same sentence makes me giggle.
