Acceptable Fandoms

Mar 25, 2016 21:37

As a history-based community, we're obviously focusing on fandoms that occurred in the past. How FAR in the past is up for debate, but something that takes place in, say, the 1980s is probably not going to fly. Most acceptable fandoms will fall under the category of "period" or "costume" drama, but there's definitely some wiggle room. Fandoms may ( Read more... )

Wow, how in the world have I not heard of Basilisk before??? That sounds amazingly interesting!!

So. Basilisk and Chrono Crusade count. Inuyasha (<33) counts as long as you stick to events in the past. I'm going to say no to Haruka because it takes place on another world that just happens to resemble our past. I'd like to stick to things that take place on Earth (even if they do involve demons lol!)

Does the Addams Family TV Show count? It's from the 1960s (and set in the present time there, so that's why I'm super unsure if it's a yes or no) AND they even had a Beatnik in an episode once :P (Why am I having such a déjà vu when typing this? Haha)

Also, The Mummy Series is set in the 1920s-40s (three movies for three decades), so that should be good, right?)

SO! I think yes to the Addams Family. It's right on that borderline, but I wanted to include the 60's so I could play around with Pan Am, so... XD Go for it!

With regards to The Mummy...I've not seen any of the movies, but it seems like there's a good amount of focus on supernatural elements? I said no to Van Helsing for that reason. BUT if the Mummy is more Indiana Jones-style and focuses on archaeology with a side helping of magic-type stuff, I'll allow it. But if it's primarily sword-and-sorcery, I'll have to say no.

No worries. I figured I'd just do it and if it wasn't allowed I wouldn't do it again! :)

This is late in the game, but does the Captive Prince Trilogy count as a historical fandom? There's no year specified, but I think it's an alternate version of our world so to speak.

I'm going to say no to this. I'm really only accepting "alternate" fandoms when the world is pretty much all the same as ours, but with very minor differences. This seems more fantasy-based from what I'm reading.

Okay, makes sense. It is a made-up realm.

Yay! (I'll try to keep something historical building-wise in the tag but well, Suzannah (see pic) is my historian bae pretty much.
