Acceptable Fandoms

Mar 25, 2016 21:37

As a history-based community, we're obviously focusing on fandoms that occurred in the past. How FAR in the past is up for debate, but something that takes place in, say, the 1980s is probably not going to fly. Most acceptable fandoms will fall under the category of "period" or "costume" drama, but there's definitely some wiggle room. Fandoms may ( Read more... )

Does 'Judex' (1916-7) count? It's set in 1916 (letters are dated 1916 and there's a 1916 office calendar) but it ignores WWI. Judex, himself, is more bothered about taking revenge on a dastardly banker and rescuing his true love from the bad guys.

Sounds like Judex has the right priorities lol! This definitely sounds fine to me. Go for it! :D

Yay! And it is set in and around Paris so it is in the real world even if, understandably, it's ignoring what's happening up the road as it were.

Are fandoms related to ancient Greece & Rome accepted? Like Spartacus, Alexander, and more broad like Greek mythology?

Greco-Roman fandoms are absolutely acceptable! We have several fans of Spartacus here, I know :D

Mythology is a fine line, since one person's myth can be another person's religion, and I don't want to step on any toes. But what I'm saying right now is that you can use mythology tangentially, so if you're, say, writing a fic about someone who believes in the Greek gods, that's a perfectly valid reason to discuss them. But you wouldn't be able to make an entire fic or graphic JUST about the gods themselves. I hope that makes sense?

Hiya,

I just wanted to ask, almost everything on this list would be acceptable right?

Yes, that's most likely a fairly safe list to work with. Anything before the 1970s should fit our requirements.
