Japan Quake

Mar 12, 2011 01:52

Thanks everybody for your e-mails / messages about my family in Japan. Everyone is safe, either evacuated or live no where near the destruction. My friends are all in the clear, but I am worried a bit about Portia, because her last FB update was before the second round of quakes/shocks and after they basically announced that Fukushima is a giant ( Read more... )

This so much. I'm worried about Portia and an exchange student that I know there. I mean, my mom's in New Zealand technically, but she's actually probably in the safest place she could possibly be during an earthquake or tsunami threat (in the open ocean)

It's just...so humbling. And even scarier with the knowledge that Japan has the BEST early warning system and safeguards in the world. You can only prepare for things like this so much.

It's terrifying. It's so small in comparison, but when I was in the flood in 2009 in Atlanta, it really makes you feel helpless and scared and a little in awe of how damaging nature can be.

The nuclear plant situation worries me, too. The destruction and devastation is unbelievable.

*side note: I've been following Kazuhiko Inoue's blog and he's safe.

God, I don't even want to THINK about the tragedy of there being a nuclear disaster on Japanese soil.

That's good to hear. Also, some people have put together a comprehensive list of mangakas and VAs.

It's just incredible the damage and destruction, and the impact it will have on the country as a whole, I can't even begin to think...

Thank you--my aunt and cousin JUST got back from Japan last week. It's pretty incredible, and I'm thankful they're here and safe, and that their family is okay. My heart is in Japan right now; they need all of our help, even just our thoughts.

It's a relief to hear your family and friends are safe, Ali. I keep my fingers crossed and my heart hopeful for everyone else.

It's a horrible thing but it appears that help has been mobilizing pretty quickly, which is good.

A friend posted this tweet today from someone else: "Today we are all Japanese."

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected, and with the cleanup and restoration.

Thank you--Japan is definitely in my thoughts today. I still have a couple people I know unaccounted for, and it's terrifying, but we're helpless here.

I'm happy to hear that your family and friends in Japan are safe. That is good news.

Well I know that they've evacuated people near the plant so that may be why you haven't heard anything else lately. I'm hoping that's why I haven't heard from family yet, my grandmother and the majority of my family in Japan live in Fukushima. News of the evacuation brought some relief and I just hope that they all made it out safely.

We heard from a few friends in Sendai, and they are being evacuated as well--it took them ages to get ahold of a phone that works, or email or anything. It's impossible to really guess the situation, but Portia isn't responding to fb or calls right now either. We can't think the worst yet, and I hope that you hear from them soon. My fingers are crossed for you.
