It felt strange, being called on like this. It had never happened before. Well, that wasn't true, he'd been called to social occasions as a cover, and a dozen times by Relena. But, this was less social and more....social.
What the difference was, Heero wasn't sure, but...He was glad. It had been something of a vacation, a pleasure to see Duo working in a pilots capacity again. It felt like a homecoming might, or as he imagined one would. solid ground. Surety of purpose. Everything that was lacking in this place. No more time for philosophy, Heero opened the door with no prelude of knocking, and shut it just as casually behind him. He was home.
"Hey," Duo greeted casually, shutting the laptop to look up at Heero. "Long time no see." The grin on his face was his usual one with a touch more warmth, and a lot more affection.
It really had been too long if the sight of Heero standing casually in the doorway, relaxed sent little swirls through his stomach.
Heero blinked. His expression hadn't altered, might as well have been looking at a brick wall - those gundanium reflector shields were still up, full force.
"Hello," He replied carefully. It felt awkward in his mouth. Heero didn't move from the doorway, just watching. Civilian Duo...not like soldier Duo. Or was this some odd kind of hybrid? His mannerisms were so altered, it was like a different person, almost. He wondered if this was what Hilde saw.
The smile morphed into a concerned 'o'. "You alright?"
Maybe it had been too long, if Heero was still standing where he was. "I don't bite, you know--" Duo swept one arm backwards in a grand motion, indicating all the blank walls and his rumpled bed. "Mi casa es su casa or whatever. Siddown, geeze!"
