It felt strange, being called on like this. It had never happened before. Well, that wasn't true, he'd been called to social occasions as a cover, and a dozen times by Relena. But, this was less social and more....social.
What the difference was, Heero wasn't sure, but...He was glad. It had been something of a vacation, a pleasure to see Duo working in a pilots capacity again. It felt like a homecoming might, or as he imagined one would. solid ground. Surety of purpose. Everything that was lacking in this place. No more time for philosophy, Heero opened the door with no prelude of knocking, and shut it just as casually behind him. He was home.
"Hey," Duo greeted casually, shutting the laptop to look up at Heero. "Long time no see." The grin on his face was his usual one with a touch more warmth, and a lot more affection.
It really had been too long if the sight of Heero standing casually in the doorway, relaxed sent little swirls through his stomach.
Heero blinked. His expression hadn't altered, might as well have been looking at a brick wall - those gundanium reflector shields were still up, full force.
"Hello," He replied carefully. It felt awkward in his mouth. Heero didn't move from the doorway, just watching. Civilian Duo...not like soldier Duo. Or was this some odd kind of hybrid? His mannerisms were so altered, it was like a different person, almost. He wondered if this was what Hilde saw.
The smile morphed into a concerned 'o'. "You alright?"
Maybe it had been too long, if Heero was still standing where he was. "I don't bite, you know--" Duo swept one arm backwards in a grand motion, indicating all the blank walls and his rumpled bed. "Mi casa es su casa or whatever. Siddown, geeze!"
He nodded at that, an internal smirk worming it's way through his brain before dissipating. He quashed it, out of habit, hiding the emotion flawlessly, as he took a seat on the edge of the bed.
"I don't believe you." He deadpanned, though the lack of tone made it more a statement of doubt than one of exasperation.
"What?" Duo blinked. "Don't believe me about what? I was serious about the sitting thing-- ya even did it, come on! Geeze, Heero, I think not eating messed with your brain or something." Two forefingers were tapped against his own forehead to emphasize it as he stood up to peer at Heero.
"Oooh." And Duo's grin was back in a flash as he plopped down next to Heero to kiss his cheek. "That makes more sense. I dunno, I could bite sometimes~ You just never know with me."
Unorthodox would be putting it mildly. That odd, girlish smooch was testament to that.
"You're very tactile," He observed blandly, only turning his head to watch Duos too-rapid movements, the way he talked with his hands, "And unpredictable, especially since..."
"Nice ta see you noticed," Duo laughed, leaning back against the wall. The bed was really too small if he could do that. Damn it, how had he survived so long in this place?
Eh, he'd been in smaller, less comfortable beds. This one had a comforter and everything. He'd had worse.
"Hn," he agreed quietly, still watching. It was pointless to say anything else. That Duo was tactile was as obvious as that water was wet. There was nothing to add.
"So I noticed that everyone here is a wimp," Duo continued as if Heero had said something more than a syllable. "They're all complainin' about food loss and frankly, it's pretty pathetic. I mean, I guess 'cause they're not all trained soldiers but even some of the trained ones are whining."
He laughed a bit and leaned in to nip at Heero's neck, smirking widely. "And I lied. Maybe I bite a little bit."
"They're civilians," Hero protested dully, watching Duo with one eye as if his nip had been venomous. He would never get used to the way Duo just came in on his personal space like that. Even if it was only him, it made am arm twitch as if to block the movement.
"Still wimpy," Duo murmured, pressing his face into Heero's neck and just breathing for a bit. "Damn, I missed this."
It was fine without Heero- he was a pilot, he didn't really need people. He was the God of Death, a lone wolf. But even Duo had to admit being like this was way better than being alone, and he'd always hated it anyway. Duo was a social creature. He talked, he interacted, and he worked far better in team.
"It wasn't really a lie. The "mostly" was implied, y'see." His face was lifted so he could grin a bit at Heero and bite his neck again.
Heero didn't reply at first, only stared flatly at Duo from so close, watching that manic gleam in his eye impassively.
Eventually, he prompted him to continue. Against all training, he had missed Duo's voice. That was the thing about Duo that he most knew; his voice. Never quiet, always chattering on about nothing at all, and so, "I do see."
"Yeah, well, exactly. So it's not really a lie, 'cause it was in my eyes. Or something like that." Grinning, Duo tapped a finger against his temple, then nosed into Heero's shoulder. "It's all a matter of reading the hidden signs, y'know? Underneath the underneath and all that."
He shifted them back a little, somewhere in the middle of the meaningless chatter, so that they were half-lying across the bed, Duo simultaneously curled up in Heero's side and sprawled over the covers in a way only he could really manage.

"...About biting," he finished, lame duck in the water. Such a screwup, "I'm fine. A week without food is nothing."
