I was asked earlier in an icon_tutorial thread how I got my desktop (specifically GIMP) to look like this. The desktop is a result of LiteStep, WindowBlinds, a wallpaper from the collection at Almost Smart, and some good ol'fashioned tinkering - but GIMP is entirely a product of said tinkering. So --

I just watched Mirrormask the other day (I live in the backwoods of nowhere, with no hope of having seen it in theatres), and was floored...it was good! Absolutely stunning visually, of course, but with a lot more subtlety and humor than I expected. I was knocking around online, reading one of my favorite pieces of literature (that which would be Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses) and afterwards went looking for literary quotes. I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did come across a page of Horace...and found him, unsurprisingly, bitingly funny.

The result: icons. Naturally.
