“All right everyone, pack up your experiments and sit down.” Their Biology teacher had a quiet, commanding voice that seemed to drift like mist, encircling, twisting, reaching everyone’s ears despite the hubub of voices.

Ville didn’t trust Bam with objects like microscopes, so, when they procceded to pack away their instruments, the emerald-eyed god who made all the girls swoon, took the microscope and slides back to the desk at the front of the room, while Bam took the fossil fragments to a box on an empty work bench.

They then went back to their desks at the back of the room. As soon as the entire class had taken their places again, the teacher began to talk about how life had started in the seas and how this was evident in some of the fossils they had looked at that day.
“Now, we all know that life started as small, single-celled animals in the oceans…” The words seemed to drift and morph, taking on the shapes of exotic animals and making Bam wonder what his mother had put in his cereal that morning.

Techincally speaking, the class was expected to take notes on what the teacher was ranting about, but, because their books were never checked, nobody bothered.

Just before the bell rang, the teacher reminded them of their homework. An A4 sheet on ancient sea life, due the following Tuesday.
Bam had no intention of doing it.

The bell went, and everyone poured out of the room, eager for lunch. Bam, seeing his oppourtunity, grabbed Ville by the arm and pulled him into an empty classroom nearby.
Shutting and locking the door, Bam turned to Ville.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Ville asked, commandeering the chair by the empty teacher’s desk.
Bam sighed and sat on the desk, swinging his legs around to face Ville. “I wish it wasn’t so hard to explain.”
Ville smiled crookedly. “You’re my best friend. You can tell me anything at all and I won’t judge you.”
Bam avoided Ville’s eyes, instead, finding something interesting on the floor. “Do you promise, Willa?”
Ville caught Bam’s chin between his right thumb and forefinger, he gently tipped Bam’s head up so he could look into Bam’s ocean-blue orbs. “I swear it, kulta.”
Bam smiled and didn’t push Ville’s hand away. “I’m in love with someone I shouldn’t be in love with.”
“Who is it? And why shouldn’t you love them?”
Bam’s bottom lip trembled. “I shouldn’t love them, because they don’t know which way I really swing.” Two tears slipped down his cheeks and he looked away.
Ville dropped his hand from Bam’s face. “Oh, kulta! Why didn’t you tell me you were gay?”
Bam looked back at Ville as more tears fell from his eyes. “Because I didn’t know how to word it. And I wasn’t even sure of it myself.”
Ville bit his lip, he hated seeing Bam so upset. “Darling, don’t cry. I’m not mad at you for being gay.”
Bam sniffed pathetically. “You’re not?”
Ville used the pad of his thumb to wipe away Bam’s tears. “Oh, Bammie, of course I’m not. I mean, how could I be? What with Migè and Linde and practically everyone we hang out with being gay or bi.”
Bam laughed weakly. “I guess, then, that you’ll want to know the name of the guy I’m in love with?”
Ville nodded. “Well, it would certainly help.”
“It’s you…” Bam said, simply. He left the words, hanging in mid-air.
Ville looked blissfully happy. “Are you serious?”
“Yes.”
Ville stood and placed his hands flat on the desk, either side of Bam. Looking into Bam’s eyes, Ville said softly, “It’s you I want. It’s you I’ve always wanted.”
Bam took Ville’s face into his hands. “Thank you…”
Ville leant in, and put his hands on Bam’s hips, before brushing his lips across Bam’s in light, butterfly kisses. The butterfly kisses stopped and Ville kissed him properly. Softly, ever so softly.
The kiss lasted more than a minute, until they jumped apart at the sound of keys rattling in the door and some choice curse words from whoever was on the other side of the door.
Bam jerked his head to the nearby window that was already open. Nodding to each other, they hurried to the window, Bam jumping out first then Ville.
“Willa?” Bam asked as they set off across the courtyard.
“Yes, Bammie?”
“Can we keep us to ourselves until certain things have settled down?”
Ville chuckled. “Like Rake and Ryan?”
Bam nodded. “Like Rake and Ryan.”
Ville grinned. “Of course we can.”
Bam gave him a quick, friendly hug. “Thanks.”
Ville shrugged. “No problem. Now, let’s go and see what’s happening with Linde and Burton.”
“…And Eicca and Perttu,” Bam muttered.
Ville laughed. “And them too.”
