"I honestly believe that religion is a complete sign of personal weakness. The desire to have someone else be responsible for your actions (either God or the devil) is the biggest fucking cop-out I've ever heard. I am revolted when I hear smart people talk about their faith. The only thing that religion is good for is controlling masses of unintelligent people. Therefore it was beneficial in the creation of civilization, but now that the mid 70s is considered a low IQ, we need to phase it out. It's sad to me that I have to completely ignore people based on the fact that they believe in a giant man who lives in the sky. And they have the nerve to say that I'm the crazy one.."
i appreciate the first two sentences. i don't agree with the rest though. i have nothing against the idea of religion. but i have a number of things against what religion is becoming, obviously.
i actually think that religion is really important when used in the right way for the right reasons. the statement of "controlling masses of unintelligent people" is true in that it does do that, but that's not what it's intended for.
yeah, i just feel bad. i know/understand that most people aren't as interested in these things as i am. so i try to keep it somewhat toned down. especially in responses, heh.
some people are lame. i have no specific religion, and my dad is catholic.. so he was questioning me why i wouldnt be catholic too. gahh i hate religion.
my parents are christian. i was raised in a baptist church, went to a private school k-8. both my parents worked at a church for basically my entire life. now neither of them go to church, they know that i don't agree with christianity, they're aware of my disposition towards any organized religion, and they're okay with it. i think they realize that it isn't a person's religious afflictions that define who that person is. honestly, i'm really blessed.
Aside from the fact that they're against something that isn't a choice, another thing bothers me about these people.
A lot of religious people disagree with homosexuality, but the most extreme measure they take is to help people in the queer community find God. The rest is up to them.
THIS particular group of people flat-out says "We hate gay people" and they're even proud to say that. The last time I checked, Christians aren't supposed to hate. Picketing a funeral, a family matter, is insanely disrespectful (but these people obviously don't care). The day one of those fuckers dies, I'll be standing there with a megaphone.
that's why that one fuck's sign pissed me off, saying that hate is justified with scripture. that it's VALUED. this is bullshit. the bible says to love your neighbor as yourself, that's the fucking golden rule.
honestly. i don't know how they live with themselves.
i completely agree with you. i think we have somewhat of an advantage on this because of kevin. i wouldn't have it any other way. being around that makes you a better person. and we're awesome for believing in what we do, rachael. we should protest naive christians. i would. and i'm a youth minister in the works. lets do it!!!

i even put that in a response to someone else's comment on here.
it's just that today, more and more people seem to use their faith rather than live it.
