I read a huge post today in the World of Warcraft forums. It was written by a player who tried to get rid of his WoW addiction, but who couldn't. While I could relate a lot to his story - after all, I am an addict myself with absolutely no intention to stop as long as this is what I want to do - this paragraph, snipped from a reply, touched me.

Lately, I have had this bad habit of not leaving the house. I stay inside, play WoW and sleep and eat and that's about it. Normally I pick up "supplies" after leaving work on Monday, and stack up on some canned food so that I will get by for a few days. Woke up at 5 PM. Went straight to work. Was at work until 9 PM. Wrote my article quicker than ever. Went to the movie theatre and came there pretty late. Watched Elizabethtown. Went home and had my crappy McDonalds dinner - yes, everything else was closed. Watched Fantastic Four. Went to bed.

I just came home from almost two weeks of BlizzCon and relaxation in Los Angeles. When I was there, I stayed with a friend of mine (whom I met for the first time in real life and who is totally awesome). Yesterday I went to check out my eyes because I had this feeling that my eyesight has become worse over the past years. It had been five years since the last time I got new contacts, and I seem to drop around -0,25 every year or so, it is just not stabilising at all which makes an operation impossible ( Read more... )

I am writing this as I am watching the final five episodes of season two of 24. It is around past 5 AM in the morning, and these few past days I have spent some long nights in front of the TV. The bad thing about 24 is that once you start watching a season, you just can't stop. After the first season I took a long break, but today I popped season two and now I have just watched six episodes and have to stop just because I have to go to work, not because I want to.
