Honey, someone shrunk my pants

I started a diet today. Well, not necessarily a diet but definitely a more responsible eating regime. It feels quite necessary after this past celebratory week of a holiday, 2 birthdays, and an impromptu family reunion. The last week included really good birthday cake, 3 cookouts (the best BBQ ribs I have ever eaten), 1 picnic (fried chicken, not ( Read more... )

Best Wishes on your half-marathon!

I've ran halves in Philadelphia and Wilmington and it's a great distance to enjoy without beating up your body too badly.

Never did one in winter, though.

The best piece of advice would be to not increase your weekly mileage too much, but just step it up gradually. Otherwise you risk injury and that'll ruin it all. Seems like you've got plenty of time.

I wasn't going to ask since I don't know what December in .ca is like, but having heard you're headed to Vegas, well, that's a different story! I spent two months in Vegas for a job. It was Jan-March, and the weather was beautiful. You just have to watch your hydration since it's literally a desert. Now I envy you: you get to have your dinner-the-night-before-a-race in Vegas!

I think my immediate plan is to just eat better/less and exercise more often. Now that you mention it, I do recall I had some angsty HBP-era weight loss as well. :D Although, let's hope we don't get a repeat of that experience.

Chocolate fountain, huh? Me thinks you and Rupert were at the same shingdig??? LOL!

I'm eating a bit too much icecream for my own good, but aren't you supposed to eat icecream after surgery? OH, wait, that's only for tonsils, isnt' it? O_o

*glomps you and your yummy posts*

You know, I had my tonsils out when I was little but I can't for the life of me remember getting any ice cream! Unless is was bland hospital ice cream that wasn't worth remembering.

It's SO hard to not get sucked into sampling in moments like those. For me it's especially true if my mind is on other things and I'm not noticing how much I'm stuffing in my mouth.

*sending very good vibes for eating healthfully*

I agree! I was really enjoying myself with family/friends and didn't realize until afterwards just how often/much food was a part of the social setting. It's true food tastes better when you're in good company.

I'm back in a healthy eating mindset so I'm back on track - for now. I realized a few years ago that by eating better most of the time, I can indulge occasionally without it being a problem. I just have to remind myself of that sometimes. :D I lost a lot weight on the Atkins diet about 4 years ago and even now, the limiting of carbs (sugar/starches) always seems to work best for me.

People I've known who did Adkins the right way seem to have success with it. Those who have trouble seem, usually, to be the ones who take it as a green light to eat tons of high fat, greasy food with little or no vegetables (or starches, of course, but I think leaving out the veggies is a mistake.) Congratulations on the success you've had!

I find that when I can get off my lazy butt and exercise regularly I can indulge a little more with no/fewer problems. Unfortunately I just can't seem to stay in the exercise zone.
