I've ran halves in Philadelphia and Wilmington and it's a great distance to enjoy without beating up your body too badly.
Never did one in winter, though.

I wasn't going to ask since I don't know what December in .ca is like, but having heard you're headed to Vegas, well, that's a different story! I spent two months in Vegas for a job. It was Jan-March, and the weather was beautiful. You just have to watch your hydration since it's literally a desert. Now I envy you: you get to have your dinner-the-night-before-a-race in Vegas!

The weather this past weekend was in the mid-90's but it was a little cooler in woods on the hiking trails. At least there was some shade.
