trente huit: anger arrives.

I miss

I ought to

Fuck, I hate her. I hate her.

Someone ought to die for this.

I am sick of.

[Private to Donny - audio]

I don't think I can live like this, Donny.

I shouldn't be this weak and pathetic. I can barely defend myself like this, I can barely do anythingI want. I want this to go away. And all I have the empty promise of some magic ( Read more... )

[Welp, that was a cry for help. Donny decided right off the bat that he and Clapet needed a little talk, so he locked the door to his cabin and went off to visit his poor, depressed inmate, listening to the post with his communicator to his ear once along the way.

He pocketed the device and knocked on the door loudly.]

Clapet, it's me. Can I come in?

I was wondering, you know. [He felt a little... annoyed that he couldn't help, which was odd, he hated doing that job, but it was more that... he'd been forced out of it, rather than been given choice.]

I think I'd just make a bigger mess than I'd tidy up. Does that mean you're on your own now?

Yeah, looks like it. [He knew that he had put Louis to work - he could finally remember it, but he wasn't going to ask his former inmate for help.

Besides, he was pretty sure Louis was in some sort of Barge coma.]

'sfine though. You'll have your hands full with the kitchen stuff.

[Clapet was sure about that, and nodded,] Oui, oui. I'm sure you can find a replacement, anyway.

[Donny smiled,] Yeah, I'm sure I can. One that wouldn't hate being theah anyway.

Like that'll ever happen, Donny. Someone who likes sweeping up hair? [He laughed,] I think they'd be a bit creepy.

[Alright, that made Donny chuckle a bit.] Hey, it beats fucking janitorial work.

[Clapet laughed a little,] No better way to demean someone than to make them fix your stairs.

[Cringe. Cringe cringe.

Donny lolled his head to one side and stared at the wall.]

Anyway. [Boy, he could use another cigarette.] Keeping busy will fix that feeling useless thing.

[Clapet took a drag off his new cigarette,] It better, Donny. Because I really, really hate this. But you're right. Probably will.

Yeah, I know you do. [Donny, for once, was thinking in terms of tact. He wondered if it'd be the right time to bring up a certain point.]

It's miserable, living like that.

[Clapet gave him a slightly skeptical look, and gave Donny the only response he had right now, a little more occupied wondering where he was going with this.]

You don't have to tell me, Donny.

What if you had died, Clapet? Like accidentally, from blood loss or something? [Donny scratched his chin, trying to keep this as casual as possible.]

You wouldn't be in this mess.

[Clapet grimaced a little, because that was a horrible question he didn't want to answer. He was half tempted to punch Donny, but even that was difficult right now, so he's stuck answering.]

I'd have lost. Not her game, Donny, but the fight to stay alive. I would have lost.

[Donny carefully pushed his chair a little bit away from Clapet. He was going to try and avoid being smacked in the face this time.]

Well, sometimes that kind of thing can't be helped. Again, the blood loss thing, you really could have died, even if you fought your fucking hardest. [He shrugged,] And maybe you would have lost, but then you wouldn't be in this predicament.

But you don't think like that at the time. At the time, you don't know whether anyone's going to bring you back, you don't know what'll happen. You just presume death is death, because otherwise, what's the point in fighting at all?

[He was keeping his voice level enough, but clenching his fist slightly. He did want to hit Donny for even bringing it up, but he knew that wasn't going to work like it used to.]
