IV. The Meddling Dragon

"His name is Hyorinmaru." Hitsugaya Toushirou said as a way of greeting when he arrived at the 5th Division Taisha. "I was able to hear him clearly for the first time today. And he's not less annoying now than before."

Aizen looked up from his paperwork when he heard the boy entering the room. Ever since the appointment of Hinamori Momo as fukutaichou of the Division, he had become and almost permanent fixture in their office. Not that Aizen was going to complain about that, he was sure most of the times it wasn't Hinamori the one he was interested in seeing. "Ah, Hitsugaya-kun, I'm afraid Hinamori-kun is out on a mission today." he said, signing the file in his hands and moving it to the next pile. He looked down at the next file, hiding his smile while he checked Hitsugaya's reaction.

The first times he came to visit he would excuse himself and leave if his friend wasn't there; now, however, he just looked around and appeared to consider it for a second. "Are you busy, Aizen-taichou?"

This time he allowed the smile to show. "Not at all."

His posture relaxing slightly, as if he had been ready to be sent home, Hitsugaya moved to the couch and sat. It had been only six months since he started training, and he had already attained Shikai. He had heard his zanpakutou's name; it was just a matter of days before he could summon it at will and use its techniques. Aizen left his paperwork and went to sit with the boy. Hitsugaya didn't look happy with this new development, and Aizen had the feeling he could guess the reason. He was learning too fast, and his power was growing too much, the rest of the students in the Academy were bound to be uncomfortable with him. And his sweet disposition didn't help matters.

Some people already called him boy genius and gave him the cold shoulder.

"Is something wrong, Hitsugaya-kun?" he said with an expression of honest interest.

The boy fixed his green eyes on him, and it was clear then it had nothing to do with the Academy or the other students. "Our Zanpakutous; is it necessary to agree with them to control them?"

It was a question he wasn't expecting, and for a second he wondered what the dragon had said to his wielder. "Our Zanpakutous have their own personalities, and even if we are supposed to be compatible, we are different." Something like relief showed on Hitsugaya's face, only to be replaced by his usual scowl. "It's easier to work with them if we agree on the important things; but you should never forget that they might share a part of our souls, but they are not our souls."

"It's just..." for the first time since he had known him, Hitsugaya seemed embarrassed and at a loss of words. Aizen was even more curious now. Glaring darkly at his hands, he pressed on. "...he doesn't seem to like you very much." Aizen's eyebrows shot up, and he had to hide a smile at what that sentence implied. "He says there's something off about you, and that you should remember me since we have met before."

Keeping his face as neutral as possible while cursing the meddling dragon, he answered. "Well, if that is what it worries you, Hitsugaya-kun," in a second he decided he had no reason to lie. "it's true that we have met before. I was the one who sent you here, after all." seeing the suspicious light enter Hitsugaya's cold eyes, Aizen raised his hands. "You know about the Soul Burial, don't you Hitsugaya-kun?"

He nodded, still looking wary but a bit more relaxed. "Why didn't you say anything before?"

"I've performed thousands of Soul Burials, Hitsugaya-kun; I can't remember all of them." Was that disappointment on those green eyes? "Yours I remember, however."

"You do?"

"Yes, I do. I knew even then you would be a powerful shiningami."

Hitsugaya stood up then and moved to the window, staring outside with a troubled expression. "Then... why?"

"I did not say anything before, Hitsugaya-kun, for one simple reason. Most of the souls here can't remember anything about their past, and it seemed pointless to bring it up." He also stood up and went to the window, stopping right behind the boy.

They stood like that, in silence for some minutes, just staring out of the window. Hitsugaya seemed to draw some comfort from Aizen's presence at his back, leaning slightly but without actually touching him.

Things were progressing quite nicely in that front, Aizen had to admit, even if the rest of his plans were not. Soon, as soon as the boy was out of the Academy and working under him, he planned on seducing him. And something told him he wasn't going to meet a lot of resistance.

He leaned forward, his body brushing Hitsugaya's lightly and he felt him shivering and getting a bit closer.

Yes, it was going to be really easy.

"It seems Hinamori-kun is returning earlier than I thought." he pointed out of the window, and Hitsugaya looked at him startled, as if he didn't know where he was or what was he doing there, only to follow his look and see Hinamori Momo hurrying back with some members of the Division.

He flushed and moved away from the window and Aizen, scowling again.

And now, is when he leaves before his friend is back. he thought, while Hitsugaya looked around for a second, and then moved to the door.

"I've taken up enough of your time, Aizen-taichou, and I have to go back to the Academy. I'll come see Hinamori another time."

And bowing slightly, he left the room.

Aizen's smile turned predatory in the empty room. Just a couple of years before he finished training and he would finally make the boy his.
