regrets vs writing / writing for yourself vs others

Well, I came on LJ today to delete my previous post.  There were things I wrote that hurt him and I wanted to get rid of it.  I want to get rid of his hurt and what I said to cause that hurt.  And sometimes, "I'm sorry" isn't enough.
But I found, while I don't love it anymore, I'm struggling; I don't want to erase it either.  I believe in self ( Read more... )

I tend to post what I want to post. I've apologized for certain things, but for the most part, if someone doesn't like my attitude/opinions/feelings, they can stop reading my lj. It's friends-only, and I certainly don't feel like I make anyone stay.

So my opinion: post what you want to post.

People do all of these things on LJ, and in diaries. The best thing to do is to leave it, as long as you still believe it's representative of your feelings at the time you wrote it. (In this specific case, it damn well is.)

If you feel the need to make the next post an apologia, that's okay. Also okay is removing names or numbers that you shouldn't have posted (but maybe you did not know then that you shouldn't.. )

Many people do have filters set up for everyone-except-my-current-SO. Used to plan surprises these can be good, but used to hide things, bad.

And, for clarity, okay in this treatise means meets with my personal feelings about using technology for censorship. Which I'm against. IANAL, YMMV, etc, usw.

Posts can be edited, btw adric September 18 2007, 23:38:19 UTC
Someone suggested that you may not be quite as savvy on how LJ works and us dorks, so..

You can edit posts (but not comments) whenever you like. Look for a little button that looks like a blue pencil at the top.

And as ever, if you have any questions about how to do stuff, just ask us.

You can also make a post completely private. I've done that when after posting, I suddenly felt very exposed and vulnerable. But, for myself, I wanted to keep what I wrote out of those feelings, not delete it.
