LOL I hated Katie in the beginning as well, but through the ~magic of fanfic~ she's become one of my favourites. And yeah, I'd heard that Katie and JJ were going to become friends in the next series and I'm so pleased, because I think they'd be great together.
Oh goddddddddddd I was about to go to bed, but sheesh, then you had to go update. I LOVE this. Already. NARGH.
You captured Katie's insecurities really well, my heart really ached for her (esp when she was wondering where to sit over lunch). I enjoyed the little fits of growth you showed (ignoring Effy, sitting on a bench by herself) they're not happy developments, but Katie's being forced out of her comfort zone, which, hopefully will eventually be a good thing with her. She's worlds apart from the girl in premiere of season three, and I'm glad she acknowledges it.
The little snippets of the other characters were bang on as well. I particularly liked JJ, I think you straddled the line between him being too awkward and too confident really well. And, aw, he's so hilarious. God, I love the girls something hardcore on this show, but JJ's still magic and is far and away my favorite of the boys. <3
