action heroes. Discuss. I'm not sure I entirely agree with her last point. Doesn't James Bond constantly sex his way past people? We see Tony Stark using his charm, too. I will grant you those are only two characters, but still. But then you also have

I love these articles. Makes me feel better about dealing with the "But who will take care of you when you are old" comments I still deal with. I recall physically recoiling once when a friends mom said "why don't you have kids for your parents (to enjoy)" or something to that effect.
I was raised mormon so not wanting kids was a huge deal. With one exception (due to infertility), every one of the church-friends I grew up with has children--the average is five.
Regarding female action heroesGrrrr. The attempted raping of Lara Croft. Realistic unfortunately, but is it really necessary in a fantasy based world? Can't she just be a BAMF? There are so few female action heroes to begin with. Or why not have "rape-y origin story" for a male action hero to overcome. If a male super hero was captured by villians, wouldn't it be just as an effective method of punishment/torture/fuckupedness ( ... )

I work for an attorney who does estate planning and probate. Trust me, having kids, even multiple kids, is absolutely no guarantee that there will be someone to take care of you in your old age.
I can't imagine the extra pressure religion would bring. But people who want kids have no idea the kind of pressure (subtle and overt) people who don't want kids face.
I liked the initial idea of building her into a BAMF but then it got all rapey and protective. Because of course you wouldn't want to identify with that character you'd just want to protect her. You know, like all those video games where you start off as an underpowered guy and become heroic where you don't identify with that character you just want to protect him. Right?

I'd read a couple of years ago about how HH really works, and it did take me out of the show for a little while...but then I realized that I really just watch for the locations mostly, so I got over it ;) I don't watch as often as I used to, but I still enjoy the odd jaunt to Croatia or the French countryside now and then.

I don't watch HH at all, but I could see watching it for the pretty scenery.

Interesting. I guess I've considered this, but I've never thought of it as just being a product of my being an introvert and needing me time -- I usually phrase it in terms of being selfish with my time, but I like looking at it the other way better. Same thing, really, just sounds better. *g*

LOL Indeed.
I do think it would be more difficult to be a parent if you were an introvert. Particularly if you were raising a child on your own or with another introvert.
I love your icon by the way. So bright and cheerful!

My partner and I are childfree. We toyed with the idea of having kids and occasionally still think about it, but when we are honest we both know we have no desire to be parents. My problem is that I have this enormous guilt because neither my sister or I have kids and I know my parents would LOVE to be grandparents. Even though they have never once tried to make me feel bad/guilty about my decision, I do feel guilty. But that would be a terrible reason to have a child.

That would be a terrible reason to have a child but I can understand feeling guilty about it. My brother and his wife have five kids so at least I don't have to worry about that. I think sometimes my mom feels a little sad because she feels like having kids has added a lot of good to her life but she hasn't tried to guilt me into having them.
