News to Think About (even if it's not technically news you can "use")

#1: Female action heroes. Discuss. I'm not sure I entirely agree with her last point. Doesn't James Bond constantly sex his way past people? We see Tony Stark using his charm, too. I will grant you those are only two characters, but still. But then you also have this. Warning for stupid, stupid man saying incredibly insulting things about female characters while clearly having no fucking clue how insulting it is. The comment section does give me some hope though (at least the first several, which is all I read).

#2: See second article above. Important enough that it needs its own number. And again, warning for stupid people saying stupid insulting things and being oblivious about it.

#3: And while we're on the subject, let us please harass a woman for wanting to make a video about the 10 common defenses of sexism in gaming. Because nothing says we respect women like harassing one for talking about our excuses for not doing so.

#4: House Hunters is fake. I just think it's interesting.

#5: How to win the World Barista Championship.

#6: Several people tell Slate why they are childfree by choice. Very thoughtful and interesting. I feel for the woman who had to lie to her doctor about why she wanted to be sterilized. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about how so many of my friends are of the "I'm feeling antisoical today so please go the hell away, it's not personal" variety and so we're all pretty much cool when one of just says I'm having an antisocial day. We all get it, we know it's not personal. Most of my friends are also childfree by choice. Maybe there's a connection there. You can't very well tell your child to fuck off and leave you alone because you don't want to deal with people just now. (At least, not and be a good parent).

#7: 1/3 of former Borders locations are still empty. It's true of the one nearest to where I live. I kept hoping B&N would move in but they have problems of their own.

#8: Why we shouldn't ignore the new study on same-sex parenting.

#9: Let's honor Ray Bradbury with an Internet error code. I like it.

#10: I'm still looking for music program recommendations if anyone has any.
