I know that we've had the twins in the meme before, but have we had any David?
I'd like to see Charles being an almost over-attentive father, being very aware of the fact he's a single father, that he's pretty young to have a kid, that his own parents didn't do a good job. In essence, he's terrified of screwing up.
I'd also love to see the other mutant's reaction to finding out Charles has a child and perhaps some amusement watching Charles with him.

He put a hand to his temple. I…I’m a mind reader, David, Charles thought. A telepath, if we’re being precise. And yes, I’m not speaking aloud. Look at my mouth, it isn’t moving. This conversation is occurring directly between our minds.
David stared at him with those wide blue-grey eyes, his hands reflexively rising to his ears as though to double check that they had truly heard nothing.
You can think back to me, if you like, Charles thought encouragingly. I won’t read your mind without permission, but if you direct a thought at me, I can clear hear it clear as day.
The boy blinked. Like this!? It was less of a thought and more of a painful explosion in his mind and Charles could not help but wince as though he’d been deafened.
Not that loud, please, son, Charles thought quietly.
Abashed, David ducked his head and tried again. Like this?
Charles smiled fondly. A little louder than that would be fine, but otherwise, that’s fine.
David pursed his lips in concentration. Is this okay?“Yes, that’s perfect,” Charles said out loud

So...authornon was not expecting such an outpouring of love over this fill. I was putting off writing more because I had the whole thing mapped out to 40 parts and wasn't sure I wanted to take on something so big. But for you guys, I can't seem to stop my fingers from typing. Hopefully I can make it through this monster without loosing my inspiration.
Thank you all for your love an encouragement! Please enjoy this little outtake while I finish up the next part.Sometime later, Charles was packing boxes in David’s room

The flight back to England was a long and arduous ordeal. Being trapped for over fourteen hours in an enclosed space with several dozen tired and irritable passengers was never a very comfortable experience for a telepath like Charles. Being trapped in that same space for that same amount of time with a small child added a whole new layer of complications to the always trying endeavor of flying.
David had never flown before. He panicked during takeoff and Charles had to work very hard not to get swept up in his son’s fear and panic alongside the boy in sympathy.
Not knowing what else to do, Charles held David’s hand as they soared up into the sky, carefully projecting warmth and safety while he silently performed the opening chapter to T. H. White’s The Once and Future King complete with moving mental illustrations directly into his son’s mind. David was quickly swept up in the story and soon forgot about the thundering roar of the airplane’s engine and just how high up in the sky they were

To his son’s credit, the boy held up far better than some of the other children on the flight. A six month old baby spent most of the flight crying off and on and a toddler in the back of the plane was making quite a scene, much to her poor mother’s displeasure. David was an angel in comparison. All the same, Charles watched with trepidation as his son began to fidget in his seat, tugging on his seatbelt and petulantly kicking the seat in front of him

He finally caught up to David and after a quiet, but firm discussion about the dangers of running in enclosed spaces, they continued walking at a more sedate pace for a little bit longer. A quick word with the head stewardess gave him the chance to bring David up to see the pilot and copilots. David was initially nervous and stuck close to Charles’ side like glue, but one look at the many flashing lights of the cockpit had the boy captivated. David hovered near the door, bouncing on the balls of his feet, asking question after question to the bemused pilot and copilots

He cursed himself for not remembering to include that little phenomenon in the careful explanation of what exactly flying would entail that David had needed before the boy would even consider stepping foot on the plane. He had thoughtlessly distracted David from the sensation during takeoff, but since he had been asleep, he’d left the boy vulnerable during their arrival.
And of course David was still crying because Charles was sitting there like an idiot instead of helping his son and all these people probably thought he was a horrid parent. Which was a stupid, silly thought, because why did he care what they thought? His son was far more important than the opinions of vapid strangers
