Ugh, for fuck's sake.
The municipality is cutting down a lot of the greenbelts in the city, including the one in front of my brother's house, and my mother won't stop whining about it.
Does she not understand that we are still in a state of emergency over here? Does she not understand that there are active fire zones within city limits? Does she not understand that these trees are a fire hazard? The wildfire is STILL BURNING, and while we're safe right now, almost anything could start another wildfire up again.
She owns my brother's house, and won't stop bellyaching about property values, but you know what? If that fucking greenbelt caught fire, it would lead that fire right up to my brother's front door.
When we evacuated, there was a good chance that his house would be damaged, because the fire had jumped the river and was heading toward his neighbourhood; he wasn't allowed to return home - the roads were blocked - and he had to leave with nothing but his truck and the clothes on his back. Thank the gods that his dogs had been staying with us that day, because if they had been at his house, we would have had to leave them behind.
He was lucky that the only damage he returned to was a flooded basement. It could have been so much worse. It's just by chance that the fire moved toward the Wood Buffalo neighbourhood rather than Thickwood; the damage could have been so awful, and the greenbelts would have carried it.
She isn't fucking thinking. She's a bloody idiot, and has been a bloody idiot many times throughout this thing, and I'm fucking sick of hearing her whine about this issue in particular. Cutting down fire hazards is an OBVIOUS thing that the city should be doing in a situation like this. Stop fucking complaining.
