I really, really hate it when other people screw up and blame me for it.
No, it is NOT my responsibility to back up anyone's files other than my own.
No, it is NOT my responsibility to predict that something will happen to your computer and that you will need to get a new one and will need to rely on my old backup in order to transfer your stuff over, and will proceed to freak out when you find out that my copy of the folder is a year out of date.
No, it is NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY to back up YOUR GODDAMN STUFF.
Fortunately, it seems like this might be salvageable; the problem is that the screen on the old laptop is kaput (wiring gave out? Who knows) so I'm planning to take it in to work and try to attach it to a monitor there, and with luck, I'll be able to transfer everything to my external drive that way.
And if I'm not able to figure that out, I'll take it to the computer repair joint and see if they can do something. The thing still boots, so it should be possible to get everything off there by using some type of monitor connection.
But I really, really do not appreciate being yelled at for something that is NOT my responsibility. Fuck you, learn to use an external drive, and take responsibility for your own files on your own computer. Ugh.
