Kamiki scrambles into the classroom that now has become 2-A. A sakura petal has fallen on his hair, but he didn’t bother brushing it away. Instead, he looks around the room, searching for his friend. His eyes lighted up as he sees the person he is looking for. Amidst his classmates are the infamous couple of last year. Being childhood friends and secretly in love with each others for so long, they openly show affections toward each others, as if to make up for lost time. If one were to see them for the first time, one would feel slightly nauseated. Luckily for Kamiki, he is already used to it.
“Ryo! Mirai-chan!” Kamiki called to them, causing them to break the longing looks for each others.
“Miki, what’s wrong?” Shida asked.
“Did you guys see Mamayu?”
“Oh, today is her first day back isn’t it?” Instead of replying, Yamada casually noted.
“Yes. Have you guys seen her?” Kamiki eagerly nodded and asked again, but to his disappointment, his friends shake their heads.
“We haven’t seen her since Haruma-sempai’s graduation. Did you get a chance to check the new student orientation?”
“I did, but I didn’t see her. I don’t think she was there.”
“Knowing her, I’m not exactly surprised.” Yamada shrugs, “Maybe she got up late today.”
“But she mailed me earlier, telling me that she is already here.”
“Well, I can’t think of anywhere else she could be.” Yamada said, “If she’s not at the ceremony, and if she’s not meeting with us...”
Instantly, Yamada and Kamiki exchange glances, “There’s also that place.”
Without a thought, Kamiki quickly darts off as Shida looks on in confusion. She turns to Yamada, but a small smile is on his lips. Then, as fast as the wind, he follows the already disappearing Kamiki, leaving Shida nothing else to do except to follow the two in pursuit.
Kamiki feels like kicking himself for being so stupid. She hasn’t been back since so long, so of course she will be there. It’s the only place in this school that she would feel comfortable with.
“Mamayu!” Kamiki called as he swings open the familiar door to the old Shin 2 dan headquarter.
Fukuda turns to him with a gleeful smile, a smile so bright that he knows for sure it’s not meant for him.
“Mamayu?” He cautiously asked. By this time, both Yamada and Shida have caught up and standing right beside him.
“What did you guys think?” Fukuda raises her arms up in a ‘ta-da’ gesture toward the room. The six eyes glances around the place where their headquarter used to be. Since the incident, they haven’t set foot in the room, so this is the first time they are back. Instead of cobwebs and dust, the proofs of noninhabitant for months, everything are clean and in their original place. As if they have traveled back in time to 1 year before.
“What happened to this place?” Yamada is the first to speak, though his eyes still travel as he marvel at the lack of changes.
“Of course I asked Ha-chan to clean it up in order to prepare for my return.” Fukuda proudly grins, but the blank states that are coming back at her make her sighs. “You know, a new beginning for Shin 2 dan.”
“New beginning?” Kamiki asked. Even though he has been together with her every day, she never mentioned it to him, so this comes as a surprise. At the same time, it’s something that she would do.
“Yes!” Her eyes glisten as she nods.
“But everyone already know about the things that we did.” Yamada shakes his head, “Did you actually think that they will allow us to continue? We can’t just simply do things in secret anymore.”
Next to him, Shida tenses up as her head held low. Her lips move slightly to the barely audible words, “I’m sorry.”
“You’re always so negative Ryo.” Fukuda wags her finger, “Who said we’re going to do things in secret?”
“What?”
“Do you think I’m stupid enough to restart this whole things without thinking it through?” Fukuda smirks, “What I mean is that we’re making it into an official club.” Pausing, she looks at each person in the room proudly, “Actually, it’s already an official club.”
Her sudden announcement startled everyone in the room. They look at her, then turn to each other, wondering if the other knew beforehand. But the blank stares on each of their faces quickly answer the question.
“Um... What?” Kamiki asked as he tries to make sense of the information.
“Shin 2 dan is a club.” Fukuda repeated slowly, “And you guys are the members.”
“Wait a second.” Yamada quickly jumps in, “You said it’s already an official club, but when did that happen?”
Fukuda smiles mischievously as she pulls out something from her bag. She shows them a manga that Kamiki recognizes at once as one of the things he brought her during her rehabilitation period in case she’s bored.
“Of course, as soon as I came to my decision to make it an official club, I asked Ha-chan to start it in our names. It’s going to be like Sket Dance, except we’re Shin 2 dan. We can now go and solve cases that was in our original objective, except this time, by the request of the students, teachers, and school itself. The school already approved of this as well.”
“But how did you managed to make it official when so many people are against it?”
“That’s easy.” Still smiling, “Even though Ha-chan stepped down as the student council president, do you think people will start hating him? I doubt it. He was always good at making people like him, so I’m pretty sure a lot of people in the student council didn’t want to see him go. They were probably pretty pissed at the Newspaper club as well. Using his good student persona, Ha-chan was able to get a lot of teachers on our side too.”
“But he already graduated!” Yamada protests, “Which mean we’re back to being the most hated group on campus.”
“Silly Ryo, that’s why we still have our wild card.” Fukuda points to Shida.
“Me?”
“Yes Shida-san.” Fukuda said, “Because of your revenge plot, it became clear to me that if I want to succeed, I would need the help of someone that’s similar to Ha-chan. A person that’s well liked by everyone in the school. No matter what happen, they would miraculously managed to get away from it. A person that can spins everyone around their fingers while keeping their pristine image. Since Ha-chan already graduated, that person could only be you.”
“I’m not sure if I can consider that as a compliment or not.” Shida frowns.
“It’s a compliment.” Fukuda smirks, “And beside, even if you decline, since Ryo’s already a member, you would still visit anyways. So, you might as well join. Right?”
“Wait!” Yamada blushed, “Who said I’m going to be a member?”
“Are you serious?” Fukuda knitted her eyebrows together, “You want to go back to those mundane days without me?”
“I’m actually quite enjoyed these mundane days without you.”
“Fine! It’s not like I needed you anyways. I have plenty of people that want to join this club.”
“You mean the people you blackmailed?”
“Shut up Suke!”
“I should be the one to say that!” Yamada angrily slams his hand on the table, making a loud ‘bam’, “I told you to stop calling me that. Mama!”
“Then you stop calling me by that stupid nickname! SUKE!”
“MAMA! MAMA!”
“SUKE! SUKE! SUKE!”
“Guys, calm down.” Kamiki quickly get in between them, trying to pacify both parties. They glares at each other, then quickly turns away.
Next to them, a light laugh escapes Shida, making the trio turn to her.
“Sorry.” She said as she wipes the tears from her eyes, “This seems fun. I guess I wouldn’t mind joining this club, especially since it was my fault in the first place.”
“Right?” Fukuda’s face brighten, “I knew you would say yes, Shi-chan.”
“Shi-chan?” Shida asked, but ignoring her question, Fukuda stands next to her and pats her head.
“After all, you owed us one.” Fukuda grins, “You’re cute! You’ll be our pet.” Shida must have understood something in the girl’s eyes, because she quickly lowers her head obediently.
“What do you mean by ‘pet’?” Yamada protests as he tries to pull his girlfriend away. Instead, Kamiki already pulls him back.
“Well, I also think it will be fun to go back to the old time.” Kamiki smiles tries to appease the two.
Before Yamada could retort, Fukuda coolly waves him away, “It’s okay if he doesn’t want to be a member. I only need Shi-chan anyways.” Then, she turns to Yamada with a satisfied smile, “Well, thanks for dropping by to see me. You can leave now. The three of us will be getting ready for our club introduction to the new student. Oh, we’ll also need to recruit more, since we are missing a member, and someone doesn’t want to join. So much to do.”
Yamada’s eyes blaze in anger, but after a while, he sighs, “Fine! I’ll join too.”
“But I don’t want you to feel like I’m forcing you.” Fukuda smirks as she wraps her arms around Kamiki’s and Shida’s shoulders, “It’ll give us bad rumors if people think I’m blackmailing my members to join. I think we’re going to be fine, so you don’t have to feel obligated to join.”
Yamada glares back at the younger girl, knowing full well what she’s trying to do. At the same time, he knows he has no other choice. Both his close friend and girlfriend are in her hand. Added to that, even though he has Shida to keep him company last year, he was also bored without Shin 2 dan’s missions. In the end, the only thing he can do is to give in.
“I want to join! Okay?” Yamada snapped.
“Oh? Are you sure?” Fukuda continues to taunt, “If you join, you’re going to be seeing me a lot. I recalled you’ve said you wanted to go back to those mundane days without me.”
“So I lied.” Yamada said, irritated, “It was boring to be normal. I still want this club to continue.” Pausing, “And I hate the thought that we are the ones that break the long tradition.”
Fukuda is taken aback by his words. And then, she smiles as their eyes meet. It was probably the first genuine smile she has on that day, as if telling him that she also felt the same way. She finally nods, acknowledging Yamada. Shida takes this chance to break away from the girl and joins with Yamada.
“I didn’t realized you would think of this.” Standing next to her, Kamiki smiles.
“Well, I guess I have you to thank for it.” Fukuda replies, “You were the one who brought me all those manga. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to come up with this idea to resurrect Shin 2 dan. You really are our lucky charm.”
“I think I’m pretty lucky myself. To have come to this school and meeting everyone... And especially you.” Kamiki reaches for Fukuda’s hand and gives it a squeeze as their eyes meet, “Welcome back.”
“I’m back.”
---THE END---
Author’s Notes: I can’t believe I finally finished with this arc, as well as story. *tears* Thank you so much for hanging on with it. I’m sorry for not elaborate more on your favorite couples, Yamada/Shida and Yuto/Suzuka. *tears*
I started this project in the Summer of 2008. 2008 was the year that I vowed to accomplish all my childhood dreams. One of my dreams when I was a kid is to write a children book. At the same time, I am a big fan of both Kamiki and Fukuda due to their Little DJ project, and it was especially difficult to find fanfics about them. One day, I came across a multi-chapters story, with Fukuda as one of its side character. Though I’m not a fan of the pairing itself, it was interesting. Spurred by the excitement of finding a rare Fukuda fanfic, I decided to start this story.
At the time, I thought that it would fulfill my dream of becoming a children’s author, while shipping my Ryuko heart to my contents. It’s like killing two birds with 1 stone. When I start on this project, I didn’t realized the difficulties of writing a multi-chapter fic. I remember saying that by the time I finish with this story, everyone will already graduated high school. ^_^;; It turned out to be true. Luckily for me, Fukuda is the last person to graduate. Since her graduation is getting closer, I decided to quickly finish this as fast as I can.
I think I learn a lot from writing this. I learned how to plan before write. At first, all I did was just write from the top of my head, but that caused me so much problems and headaches later on. This is especially true with plotholes. When I started planning, I found it to be much easier for me, and the story flow a lot better (not best, but definitely better). I also has a lot of trouble with tense. One of my coworker/friend told me that maybe because whenever I see tense, I tensed up. lol So that was another of my challenges. I don't think I'll ever get better with tense, as I'm always so indecisive and not sure if I should use past or present tense. lol But I guess, I'm still learning, or at least I'll tell myself that for now.
Now that I finished... I guess my goal is also accomplished, and I probably won’t write another story until a long time. I’m not a good writer in the first place, and English is my most hated subject. However, if I have time, I really want to make this into a light novel (personal obsession with light novels). So, I’ll probably need to draw... |||orz *lazy*
Thank you for reading. Thank you for sticking with it for so long. Sorry, I talk too much. ^^;;
On another note, I really wish Star of Heaven update soon. :x
