The crickets sing their songs as the air becoming warmer, signaling the start of summer. The moon shines through the glass windows that line the hallway of Shinrichi Gakuin. Its light illuminates the ground, leading the way with each step he takes. Summer break will start in a week, but he is back in school on a Sunday night. The familiar school corridors, where he spent the past two and a half year walking across, suddenly become eerie. His shadows dance across the wall, and his own footsteps cause his heart to make jerking motions behind his rib cage. Even the slightest sound makes him jumps, but he is determine to continue to the meeting place.
Walking toward the school library, a shadow of a girl was standing there. She stands there with a package clutched in her arm and her keitai open. Her long hair creates shadows across her white face, like a ghost. Wasn’t there a story about some girl killed herself in one of the girl’s restroom a few years ago? Isn’t school usually the best place for these kinds of things? As he contemplates whether he should run away, she looks up at him and he realizes that she’s human.
“You’re late!” She said in annoyance, but he just shrugs. From the faint glow of her keitai, he can make out the soft facial line of the girl. She’s quite a looker. In fact, he knows right away who she is. After all, she is famous in this school.
She hands him the package on her arm. It was a yellow envelope. He raises an eyebrow, but accepts it anyways. He looks inside to find a stack of papers.
“What’s this?” He asked, but the girl signals him to continue.
Using the light from his keitai, he quickly skims the contents of the packet. Noticing a familiar name within seconds, his eyes light up and the corner of his mouth curves to a smile.
“Where did you get this?” He asked, but the only response he gets back is a proud smile on her lips. He didn’t press her any further, and it doesn’t really matter to him. “This is great!” He cooed again as he flips through the contents.
“But I have a request.”
“Anything!” He grins.
The girl leans close to him and whispers something in his ears. The air from her voice tickles and he was ready for that. But he wasn’t ready for what she is telling him. As she pulls away, he gives a confused look.
“Even though you’re in here, is it really okay for me to post this?” He asked, wondering what’s really on her mind.
“It’s alright, as long as you promise.”
He chuckles and shakes his head, “Girls are really something.”
…
Kei opens the door to his apartment and is greeted with a soft aroma that makes his stomach gurgles. It quickly reminded him that he has not eaten since 5 o’clock yesterday. Shoon is at the kitchen stove, rushing to make breakfast. The noise from the television blares with the recent scandal about Shinrichi Hospital, about some sort of medical malpractice and misunderstanding.
“Welcome back.” Noticing him, Shoon said, “How was the stake out?”
“We finally caught them, so I’m back to rest.” Kei said as he pulls out a chair, but Shoon already has something in mind for him.
“I’m going to be late for my class, and Mayu-chan hasn’t waked up yet.” Shoon points to Fukuda’s bedroom door, “Can you call her up for me? She’s going to be late if she’s not awake soon.”
Kei nods. He was hoping to just go straight to bed after eating, but since he hasn’t seen her in a while, he’s much more compliant. Shoon must have known that, because it’s always the first thing he asked of Kei whenever he has stakeout missions, much like today.
Kei knocks on her door, and slowly opens it. Unlike Shoon, Kei isn’t too much of a neat freak, so he is not surprised at the conditions of her room. At the same time, Fukuda isn’t so messy that make living conditions unbearable for all of them. However, the scattered papers on the ground, radiating away from the sleeping girl almost causes him to take a step back. After a moment surveying, Kei finally steps in. Lying on her bed, Sock is awakening by the slight noise. He turns to Kei to make sure he’s not an intruder, before resting his head on the soft mattress again. Instead of wrapped up in her bed, Fukuda is peacefully sleeping with her head resting on the table. Her netbook opens in front of her, still warm from the recent use. He guesses she must have worked on something through the night.
Kei picks up a scratch paper from the ground that has some of her writing scribbled with incoherent words, circles, arrows, and squares. The only thing word he recognized is Shinrichi Hospital, the same one that was shown earlier on the television. He stands beside her and notices even more papers covered her desk.
“Mayu-chan!” Kei called softly, but even with his soft nudges, Fukuda is still asleep. She didn’t even stir. Looking at her sleeping face soften his heart, enough that Kei didn’t want to wake her up. She is like a cute sister that he wanted to protect. Even just watching her like this give him enough energy for another long day. Shoon always tells him that he’s like a protective father. But what’s not to love? To him, she is his adorable Mayu-chan.
“Mayu-chan! Wake up!” Shoon’s scream makes both of them jump. He looks in with a spatula on his hand, while reprimand the guilty Kei. “You were supposed to call her up.”
“Good morning.” Fukuda said as she yawns. She stretches her arms and rubs her shoulder. Her body aches from the sleeping position.
“Guess what time it is?” Shoon asked her and Fukuda hazily turns to look at the clock next to her.
“AH!”
“Yes, exactly.” Shoon smiles and nods. Then, he disappears back to the kitchen, but his voice can still be heard behind the walls, “I made breakfast, so eat whatever you can. I have to leave right away if I don’t want to miss my train.”
“Me too. I’m late too.” Fukuda whines as she quickly jumps from the chair and dashes into the restroom with her uniform. Moments later, she rushes out with her hair in dishevel and the buttons on her shirt only half done. Fukuda takes her netbook and quickly stuffed it inside her bag. She runs out the door as quickly as she came.
Before the front door is closed with a bang, Fukuda calls to Kei, “Welcome back, Kei-nii!”
Kei smiles and shakes his head. He was glad that she at least still remembers to greet him. Deciding to eat the prepared breakfast by Shoon, he walks out the door. But something on the corner of the desk catches his eyes. It was a wrinkled old photograph. Takes it in his hand, Kei recognized the young Fukuda right away, smiling cutely, something he doesn't usually has a chance to see. A woman and a man around the same age stand behind her. The woman must be her mother as they have the same eyes. As for the man, he looks very familiar to Kei. He’s the same person Kei has met a few days ago.
An intense pain radiates out from the side of his head as millions of thoughts run through his brain. It was so painful that he has to sit down on Fukuda’s bed. Kei press his temple, doing his best to relieve the pain. But as he stares at the photograph, the headache only become worse.
Why now?

Author’s Note: Sorry it took so long for the last arc. I’ve experienced writing block. From the beginning, I already know how it is going to end, but putting words onto paper became extremely difficult for me. I’m really not a writer. I wish I am though.
Anyways enough of my excuses. This is the last arc, the last adventure, the last mission with the members of Shin 2 dan. Please enjoy.
