Chapter 7

Kyuhyun was walking back from a grueling basketball practice. He looked at his watch since he had no clue what the time or day was for that matter. All he had time to think about was basketball and how tired he was. He realized it was five in the afternoon and made his way to the student union for a bite to eat. He bought a smoothie and sandwich then headed toward the exit thanking God his long day of basketball and classes was over. Before he had the chance to look up, he bumped into someone.
“Excuse me,” they both said in unison and he sighed seeing Sungmin.
“Sorry I didn’t see you,” he said and Sungmin was just quiet. Sungmin rolled his eyes and walked past him.
“Min, wait, I’m sorry,” he called out and Sungmin stopped to look at him.
“I doubt that,” he smirked and Kyuhyun walked up to him.
“I am sorry and I want a second chance. I promise I will listen and cooperate this time please. I have to pass Chemistry,” he pleaded and Sungmin sighed.
“Fine, but anymore comments like the one the other night, and you’re out. Plus, if you’re serious about this then we have to start right away.” Kyuhyun smiled and nodded.
“Let’s get started,” Kyuhyun said and they walked to Beta Sigma House.

Yesung was sitting in his room reading over his script again, but quickly tossed it aside. He couldn’t stop thinking about Leeteuk and their kiss. After years of separation and not talking, why did it feel so right, so good, he thought but shook his head. It was because of the timing. They were in the middle of a romantic scene and their emotions got the best of them. He needed to take his mind off of it and quickly signed onto his laptop. He began to watch a couple of videos on YouTube and then thought again about Leeteuk. He was curious to see how his boyfriend looked. Hangeng and Siwon told him about Kangin and Leeteuk awhile back but Yesung never met the guy. From Hangeng’s description he was a jerk to say the least. Kangin was the head of a fraternity as well and the frat was the rival of Hangeng’s. Yesung began to think and soon got onto the school’s website. He pulled up organizations and looked up Kangin’s, Phi Beta Kappa. Yesung looked at some pictures and saw a picture of a man with a smirk on his face. He was wearing a polo shirt and Yesung shook his head.
“Please don’t let this guy be Kangin,” he said out loud and soon read the caption sighing. He realized it was indeed Leeteuk’s boyfriend and scrolled down to see a picture of Leeteuk with him. Yesung quickly closed the page and looked at more videos on YouTube. He knew that Hangeng made an account for his fraternity so he checked it out. He laughed seeing videos of fundraisers and carnivals hosted by the fraternity and Leeteuk’s fraternity as well. Yesung didn’t know why but he wanted to find out more about Kangin. He typed in Phi Beta Kappa and Seoul National University smiling as an account was found. Sure enough, it was Kangins’s fraternity. Yesung scrolled down the page looking at the videos available and shook his head. The videos were all of parties which made Yesung think Hangeng was right. Kangin didn’t care about giving back to the community or school, he was all about partying. Kangin and Hangeng both ran fraternities but that’s where the similarities stopped. Hangeng believed in setting an example and giving back to help others, while he said Kangin believed in parties and the stereotypical fraternity setting. Yesung clicked on a video and was a little disturbed. Yesung frowned even more seeing Kangin and soon his eyes widened. Kangin was kissing someone and Yesung knew for sure it wasn’t Leeteuk. He quickly closed the page trying to think about what he just saw.

After hours of studying, Kyuhyun and Sungmin finally closed their books.
“No more, I surrender, I can’t take another periodic table,” he laughed and Sungmin nodded.
“We’re done for the night. You did great and if you keep it up you will ace this midterm,” Sungmin smiled and did as well putting his head on the desk. They were both quiet and Kyuhyun looked at Sungmin knowing he wanted to say something.
“Look Min, I really am sorry for before please forgive….”
“Kyu it isn’t that. I just am confused,” Sungmin began and Kyu looked at him not sure what Sungmin was talking about.
“Your grades are horrible in that class, I’m sorry but they are, and yet you just knocked all my questions out of the park. It’s like you don’t even try in class or something. Kyuhyun I know you aren’t stupid, that’s what’s so damn frustrating about you. You have so much potential and you just throw it all away.” Kyuhyun sat up and shook his head upset.
“You’ll never understand,” he said and Sungmin looked at him.
“Then how about you try to explain it to me,” Sungmin said and Kyuhyun got up.
“You don’t know what it is like to be me. All you see is this jock, this superstar, but I have worked my ass to get here,” he said and Sungmin stood up.
“To get where Kyuhyun, you are a student-athlete. Do you know what that means? Student first, athlete second, you are at this university to get an education and you are screwing up already because of your mixed up priorities.” Kyuhyun sat down and placed his face in his hands causing Sungmin to be a bit taken back by his reaction. Sungmin sat down and they were both quiet then he spoke.
“I wake up at five in the morning everyday. I go to practice and bust my ass only to have my coach say push harder Kyu. I bleed, I sweat, I ache, and then I have to make it to my first class of the day. My body is a wreck, my mind fatigued, and somehow I am supposed to stay awake to hear and actually understand what is going on. After that I get a snack, and then I head back to the gym for weights and shoot around even though I am tired as hell. You know what’s sad,” he asked and Sungmin looked down.
“When I get done with all that, it’s only one in the afternoon. I have Chemistry at 1:30 and by that time my body is shot to hell, so I fall asleep or try to listen to some music to stay awake, but either way it goes, I don’t know what is going on in the class.” Sungmin sat there not knowing what to say.
“You have no clue what it is like to wake up every morning wishing you were someone else.” He got up to leave but Sungmin stopped him. Sungmin ran his hand through Kyuhyuns hair and Kyuhyun looked into Sungmin eyes not sure what was happening. Sungmin hugged him tightly and for the first time since he started school, Kyuhyun relaxed. He melted into Sungmin arms and just enjoyed the feeling. Sungmin looked at him and captured Kyu’s lips in a kiss. They fell onto the bed kissing for hours. There was so much pinned up sexual frustration between them and they released it during those hours. Afterwards, Kyu and Sungmin fell asleep together.

The next couple of days seemed hectic for everyone since Midterms had arrived. They were the second most stressful days of college, the first being finals week. Yesung walked into the theater room relieved that he was finished with a philosophy exam and spotted Leeteuk. They didn’t talk that much after the kiss and he sat down by Leeteuk.
“Hey,” he said and Leeteuk smiled a bit.
“You look like you just survived a test,” Leeteuk giggled and Yesung nodded.
“The ultimate evil known as Ancient Greek Philosophy,” he smiled and Leeteuk did as well before putting an arm around him.
“Well look at it this way, you finished it, and we don’t have to worry about a Midterm in here or final for that matter.” He sighed and nodded.
“True, but we do have a play to stress over,” he said and Leeteuk rolled his eyes.
“Don’t remind me,” Leeteuk laughed and Yesung looked at how happy Leeteuk seemed. He couldn’t stop thinking about what he saw, but didn’t know what to say to Leeteuk about it. They weren’t exactly great friends but he did feel obligated to tell Leeteuk the truth.
“Jungsu,” he began and Leeteuk looked at him with a smile. He wanted to say it so much but he couldn’t get the words or courage to say your boyfriend is cheating on you because he is a prick. Leeteuk gave him a look.
“Are you ok, is there something you want to say?” He shook his head with a sigh.
“Nothing,” he said and Leeteuk knew it wasn’t true but left it at that as the professor came on stage.
“Soon my dears, very soon, Romeo and Juliet will sweep the SNU Theater off of its feet,” she smiled and the students all giggled at her excitement.
“More rehearsing is all I will say, rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal, so let’s get to it,” she announced and they all began practicing the play.

The next day was Friday and everyone was relieved that Midterms were officially over. Sungmin waited impatiently in the living room of the frat house for Kyuhyun. He was about to come back from class and the professor already graded his exam. Sungmin turned around and saw Kyuhyun looking at him disappointed. Sungmin sighed and walked up to him.
“No matter what, you did your best and that’s all that matters,” Sungmin said and Kyuhyun looked at the paper in his hands.
“I know, it just sucks, I mean now that I’ve aced the exam I can’t have my tutor,” he smiled and Sungmin jumped into his arms then looked at the test amazed.
“Oh my God, you made a 98, Kyu that’s amazing,” Sungmin said shocked and Kyuhyun nodded with a smile.
“Yea, Dr. Scott said that if he wasn’t watching me like a hawk, he would have accused me of cheating,” he laughed and Sungmin hugged him again.
“I am so proud of you,” Sungmin smiled and Kyuhyun held Sungmin in his arms.
“Proud enough to be my boyfriend,” he asked and Sungmin kissed him.
“I thought we already established that,” Sungmin giggled and Kyuhyun smiled.
“I know I just want to make it official,” he said and Sungmin nodded.
“I would love that,” Sungmin smiled and Kyu kissed Sungmin again.
“What a great day. I got a great grade, I’m starting in the game, and now I have the person of my dreams,” he smiled and Sungmin did as well. Sungmin kissed him again and then looked at the clock.
“You better get going. I wouldn’t want your coach to freak out because you are late for your first game,” Sungmin informed and Kyu looked at the clock.
“You’re right, but you’ll be there tonight right,” he asked worried and Sungmin gave him a look.
“Do you even have to ask that? Besides I have to keep anyone away from my gorgeous star basketball player,” Sungmin giggled and he smiled.
“Don’t you mean your smart and gorgeous star basketball player,” Kyu teased. Sungmin nodded.
“See you there,” Sungmin said and Kyu walked out happily as Sungmin watched.

Yesung was deep in thought in his room thinking about Leeteuk. He wanted to tell Leeteuk about Kangin but was afraid of the consequences. They were just starting to get back on good terms and what about the kiss? He kept telling himself it meant nothing but he knew he was still in love with Leeteuk. He sighed and put a pillow over his head. After all these years, why was Leeteuk still the most amazing person in his life? Leeteuk hurt him, broke his heart, and yet still managed to take his breath away. Maybe that’s why he wanted to tell about Kangin. He wasn’t exactly an unbiased third party in the situation. Maybe loving Leeteuk the way he did was the reason he truly wanted to tell Leeteuk and what if he saw wrong? Yesung sat up and shook his head thinking he was going insane Videos don’t lie and he knew what he saw. He had to tell Leeteuk the truth because he deserved it. Suddenly there was a knock on the door and he answered it surprised.
“Omma,” he smiled and gave her a hug. She handed him a SNU shirt.
“It’s Kyu’s first game and he needs all of our support,” she explained and he nodded.
“So that’s the only reason you came, just to see Kyuhyun,” he teased and she slapped her son’s shoulder as he laughed.
“I missed you too sweetie,” she said before hugging him, “now come on, your Appa is going with your brothers and I told him we would meet them at the game.” Yesung smiled and walked out with his mother.

The game was going great and Kyuhyun was helping his team lead over MSU after the first quarter. The crowd was going crazy and Yesung laughed as his mother and father cheered happily along with the crowd.
“This is crazier than Shinwa University games,” he shouted over the fans and Hangeng smiled.
“Welcome to a school with tons of spirit. Plus Kyuhyun is kicking ass,” he laughed back. Yesung’s smile soon faded seeing Leeteuk and Kangin walk into the game hand in hand. He looked away not sure how to take it and then back as Leetuk sat down with Kangin. Kangin tapped him on the shoulder.
“You want to talk about it?” The buzzer for the second quarter sounded and Yesung shook his head.
“I want to enjoy the game. Kyuhyun Fighting ,” he shouted as the crowd cheered and Hangeng took it as a sign to leave it alone.

Kyuhyun gave Sungmin a wink before throwing the ball in and starting the game again. He was having a great game so far but it wasn’t over by a long shot. The SNU were leading by ten but it wasn’t even halftime yet. After seven minutes of play, Kyuhyun’s team was still in the lead and the coach called a timeout for one last play before halftime.
“Alright we want to make a statement before halftime guys. Let’s run red and we’re going to Kyuhyun,” said the coach and he smiled at Kyuhyun.
“Show them what you’re made of kid,” he said and Kyuhyun nodded. The team went back on the court as the fans cheered. Kyuhyun looked at the clock, five seconds before halftime. The referee blew the whistle and his teammate threw in the ball. Kyuhyun cut to the basket but then faked back up before slicing to the other side of the court and catching the pass. The time was winding down and he turned and shot before the buzzer went off. The fans all jumped up as the shot went in ending the second quarter SNU 42- MSU 30. Kyuhyun gave Sungmin another wink before running back into the locker room. Mr. Kim clapped as he looked at the score.
“Kyuhyun is on fire, this game can’t get any better,” he smiled at his wife but she sighed.
“But it can get worse,” she said pointing to the door. Kyu’s Dad walked in and sat down as Mr. Kim shook his head.
“What is he doing here,” he asked upset and Mrs Kim rubbed her husband’s back to calm him down.
“Whether we like it or not he is Kyu’s….” She knew her husband hated the word especially since he always thought of Kyuhyun as his son.
“Let’s just focus on the game,” she concluded and after the halftime show, the game started back up. Kyuhyun spotted his father in the crowd and gulped before continuing to play. The game was going great and after the third quarter his team was still ahead. The fourth quarter began and Kyuhyun quickly increased the lead to 25 points leaving little doubt that the SNU would win. He was already the high scorer and MVP of the game, but then the unthinkable happened. The MSU’ coach called a timeout and Kyuhyun knew something was wrong. They were down by too much and with two minutes left in the game it was nearly impossible to catch up so why would he call a timeout? The game began again and Kyuhyun played tight defense on his man. He stole the ball and headed down the court as the crowd cheered. He went to dunk the ball and knew he could before the defender got there. He went up only for two guys to tackle him midair. The referee blew the whistle calling the foul, but it was too late. The damage was done and Kyuhyun mercilessly fell to the floor landing awkwardly on his ankle. It felt like it was shattered and the pain was more than he ever thought possible. The fans looked on horrified as their star player held his ankle in pain. The trainers rushed on the floor and everyone stood up trying to see if he was ok. Kyuhyun gritted his teeth as the players who committed the foul smiled letting him know they purposely hurt him. It was the dirtiest move in the book. The MSU had nothing else to gain from the game, so they gave the SNU something to lose, their star player. He was trying to listen to the trainers as they asked if he could walk but the pain was too much. They took it as a sign to get some of the players to carry him to the locker room and they all helped Kyuhyun. The coach patted his shoulder sympathetically and then looked at the MSU’s coach knowing what he did. Everyone clapped as Kyuhyun was helped to the training room. After the game was over, Mr and Mrs Kim ran into the training room. Kyuhyun smiled as they both hugged him.
“I’m fine,” he said knowing they were worried. Soon Hangeng, Siwon, Yesung, and Donghae walked in along with Heechul, Zhou Mi, Eunhyuk, and Sungmin. They looked him over and then noticed that Kyuhyun and Sungmin were staring at one another.
“How about we give them some time to talk,” suggested Mrs Kim and she ushered everyone out. Sungmin quickly hugged Kyuhyun and he sighed.
“So much for the perfect game,” he said and Sungmin leaned his forehead against Kyu.
“You had an amazing game, but I don’t care about that. Kyuhyun I care about you,” Sungmin said causing Kyuhyun to smile. He kissed Sungmin passionately and they both became lost in it. Before they got too passionate someone cleared their throat behind them. Sungmin turned to see Mr. Cho standing there and Sungmin looked back at Kyuhyun.
“I’ll see you outside,” Sungmin said and Kyuhyun nodded as Sungmin walked out. Mr. Cho crossed his arms and looked at his son.
“Tough break,” he said and Kyuhyun nodded.
“It’s just a really bad sprain Appa. I didn’t break anything and I’ll just have to use crutches for a while.”
“I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about you being out at the beginning of your freshman season. Kyuhyun, that will make it easy for other guys to take your spot,” he said and Kyuhyun shook his head knowing his father was only thinking about the game and not him.
“It will be fine Appa. After a month or two my ankle will be healthy again and who knows I might be back sooner,” he said getting his crutches and walking past his father, but Mr. Cho stopped him.
“You know when an athlete gets benched for most of the season, they are usually more upset. This is about that Sungmin isn’t it? He’s the reason this damn thing happened.” Kyuhyun looked at him shocked.
“Sungmin wasn’t even on the court. Two guys took me out because I was embarrassing them,” he defended.
“Exactly Kyu, you should have known to protect yourself out there but because your head was up in the clouds, you forgot. Look what it got you son, a damn injury,” he yelled and Kyuhyun looked down.
“Leave that Sungmin alone and focus on getting healthy.” Kyuhyun shook his head.
“He’s my boyfriend..,” he said and Mr. Cho walked up close to him glaring at Kyuhyun.
“Was your boyfriend, past tense, you got that boy,” he asked and Kyu slowly nodded. Mr. Cho patted his shoulder.
“Good, now go get some ice and rest that ankle. I’ll call you in a couple of months to see how it is,” he informed and walked out leaving Kyuhyun there to think.

Hangeng sighed as he waited for Kyuhyun outside of the gym along with the others.
“Man I can’t believe those assholes did this,” he said upset and Siwon nodded.
“Yea MSU sucks,” he yelled as the MSU’ bus passed by. Mr. and Mrs Kim looked at their sons.
“Kyuhyun is going to be upset about this so try to cheer him up. We’ll call tomorrow to check on him,” said Mr. Kim and they said their goodbyes before leaving.
“How the hell do you cheer up someone who just got injured,” asked Yesung and Hangeng began to smile. He looked at Donghae and the crowd then smiled. Donghae did as well knowing what Hangeng was up to. Hangeng stood up on a bench outside.
“Omegas make some noise,” he shouted and the fraternity members all cheered.
“Omega Phi Gammas,” they yelled in unison causing the other fans to look at them.
“Omegas, midterms, are over,” he said and everyone including other students cheered. Kyuhyun walked out with Sungmin helping him.
“But even though that’s great, we do have a serious problem,” said Hangeng pointing at Kyuhyun, “our star player, but more importantly, our fellow Omega brother, is down.” Everyone chanted Kyu’s name causing him to smile a bit. Donghae hopped up on the bench.
“Which means it is our mission to cheer him up. That’s why tonight at the Omega house we are throwing a huge party. So tonight let’s celebrate the end of Midterms, a great victory, and cheer up the man who led us to it,” screamed Donghae and everyone cheered again before heading toward the Omega house. Hangeng smiled at Kyuhyun.
“Don’t worry man you’ll be back in no time. Just think of this as a nice vacation,” he suggested and Kyuhyun smiled. Soon a black car passed by. His father gave him a look before turning the corner causing Kyuhyun to look down.
