The slightly disturbing thing is that I seem to sleep better when my spirituality is in a more Christian form than Islamic or pagan. But I don't know if that's due to some aspect of the Christian idiom itself, or just using Christian scriptures and music (Gregorian chant, usually) as my bedtime ritual ( Read more... )

It's the back-and-forth waffling that's draining. It's the not knowing what I'm going to believe tomorrow or how I'm going to feel about a given form of prayer. It's the inability to form a relationship with God because I can't be faithful to a given mode of addressing Him. Maybe I'm just going to drive myself mad trying to pick one religion over another. Perhaps I just have to be satisfied with "freelance monotheism", throw Judaism, Christianity, Gnosticism, and Islam into the pot, and let whatever bubbles to the top be whatever it is.

I don't ultimately believe in Original Sin. I don't believe it's compatible with a compassionate, loving, or all-powerful God -- which I do believe in.

Without Original Sin, the crucifixion of Jesus is irrelevant.

Without the crucifixion, Christianity is meaningless.

All right, apparently sometimes I believe in Christ, and sometimes I don't.

Fucking annoying. Pick one or the other, moron...

Maybe I have to choose between faith and community -- maybe I can't actually have both.

I just don't genuinely believe Christian theology, but Muslims are just too backward.
