I am not offended and I certainly respect your right to your opinion. Nor do I hate you for it. I also don't think that all Trump supporters are racist, homophobic and hate-filled misogynists. I have too many Republican friends and family to believe that. But I do, respectfully, disagree with how bad this one man and one election could turn out to be.
I'm old enough to remember when Ronald Reagan was elected and the uproar that was heard both before and after the election. He was no saint either. But we had eight of the most prosperous and peaceful years in modern history. I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens. *hugs*
Thanks for speaking out for what you believe and I also totally respect your right to your opinion and love you to bits! I'm not American so I can only speak as an observer although I feel invested as what happens in America is so influential on the rest of the world

I'm not offended by people's comments, just a bit saddened by them, and I didn't intend to make it seem as if I were. Part of the problem we have, at least in our society on this side of the pond, is that taking offense seems to have become the new national past-time, so I try to avoid it

I fully respect your right to vote for whomever you feel will help dear. But, I do have only two questions. Not trolling, really just don't understand, so your reply is welcomed: 1. What Actual, real world qualifications does Mr. Trump have to hold the highest office in this land? He has never held any office or been elected by peers to Anything, not even local councilman. He's a "business man" but you cannot run a country like a business. America is not a Home Depot. Also, as a business man he's never actually Built Anything. He just licensed his name. It's like hiring an Uber driver to perform open heart surgery. 2. The pain your family and business has suffered over the last 8 years? You do realize that the Republican held House of Representatives has spent the last 8 years obstructing and delaying EVERY measure the President tried to enact, because they had already decided, on November 9, 2008, to make Pres. Obama's presidency fail. To hell with what the people needed or wanted. Power was more important to them than

Oh, but Withy, sometimes an election is about politics and sometimes it is about so much more. By casting your vote for Trump, you have voted for the future discrmination of and taking away of rights from women, POC, LGBT and Muslims. You have validated every person out there that harbours a secret hate against any of those groups - just look at post-Brexit-vote Britain: hate crime rose by 60%. 60%! Because all those idiots who used to be secret racists, mysogynists etc, now feel save to come out and attack people

Oh, my dear. Where do I start? I do not for one moment believe anyone's rights are going to be taken away by the election of one man! Really? Donald Trump will be president, not emperor or dictator. This is a democracy. There is no mood in this country to take away the rights of women, gays, or anyone else. Sure, there are extremists on both sides who would like to do so, but they are a distinct minority and they exist in every society. And what about those who have felt validated by the other side to shoot policemen because they hate whites, or physically threaten others because they don't hold the same political views? That kind of garbage goes both ways

Sorry, Withy, please be honest with yourself: you didn't vote for change or for making America great again, you voted for racism, sexism, homophobia and a lot of other bad things - because that is what Trump stands for and isn't shy about boasting about. And either you did that because you do feel that way - which I really hope you do not - or you voted for those things because your hope of improving your personal financial situation was more important to you than the fact that millions of people will face discrimination, immense financial hardship, violence or worse in their daily lives because of the man you supported. And that is terrible

I’m sorry too. I’m sorry you and so many others think so little of the American people as a whole. I’m sorry that you think a country that has done so much to help other people can suddenly turn into a nation of monsters because of the election of one man, I’m sorry that you and so many others have fallen prey to all the lies and fear mongering put forth by a media that has been in the tank for the left for so many years. I knew when I started this conversation that I was not likely to change anyone’s mind. I had just hoped that I could shed a little light on why the election went the way it did and give others a different perspective. I didn’t think I and my country would end up being so vilified.
