To My LJ Friends:
I have never been one to comment on politics in this forum. After all, I’m here for my beloved fandoms and the friends I’ve made over the years. However, I’ve decided that I can no longer remain silent after reading so many of your posts today and your views on our American election.
First of all, let me say that I am a conservative Republican and a Christian. I voted for Donald Trump. And I know that, according to the main stream media and the left, I am supposed to crawl into that box of racist, homophobic, hate-filled misogynists that every conservative and Christian belongs in. Well, sorry. I, and thousands of others like me, don’t fit in that box any more than all black people hate cops or all men disrespect women. Why, some of us even actively speak out in our churches for gay marriage! And if I thought for one moment that America will turn into that kind of society, I would have voted differently.
But what I am is someone who has seen my family and my community suffer for the last eight years under the current administration. I am a small business owner who has seen our cost of doing business driven up by increasingly burdensome government regulations, taxes, and higher health insurance costs, to the point where it is fast becoming unsustainable. And there are many, many more of us in the same boat.
So what I and so many others in the country voted for on Tuesday was not just a candidate, as imperfect as he is, but a change of direction. Isn’t that what so many of those who elected Barack Obama were voting for in 2008?
I hope I haven’t offended anyone reading this. I love you all and I respect your right to your opinion. It just saddens me to know that some of you think the world and this country are coming to an end because of one man and one election. We’re better than that! Please give our founding fathers some credit when they set up our system. They knew what they were doing. It hasn’t failed us yet.
