Thanks for speaking out for what you believe and I also totally respect your right to your opinion and love you to bits! I'm not American so I can only speak as an observer although I feel invested as what happens in America is so influential on the rest of the world.

I think the reaction to the election is extreme because the campaign has been extreme. I by no means think that everyone who voted for Trump share the view of the world that was implied by the racist things he said in the campaign but I think the shock is that he managed to get elected anyway and no one wants to think that a President in the modern era could hold such views. I am familiar due to Brexit with the fact that some voters are using their vote tactically, voting for a move or candidate not because they agree with it but simply as a form of protest. I don't feel that I am making assumptions about Trump voters and my reactions were just about the man as he has so far presented himself.

I would hate to think you would feel offended by anything said here and I too usually don't comment on politics and prefer it that way. But this election is so world-shifting that it has just caused such a strong reaction from everyone. The internet has exploded and the newspaper headlines here are strongly divided. But we don't know yet what will happen. It may not be what anyone expects. I'm simply hoping for the best for all Americans and for the wider world *hugs you*

I'm not offended by people's comments, just a bit saddened by them, and I didn't intend to make it seem as if I were. Part of the problem we have, at least in our society on this side of the pond, is that taking offense seems to have become the new national past-time, so I try to avoid it.

I agree that much of the reaction is due to the extremity of the campaign, on both sides. Civility seems to be another thing that has gone out the window as of late, in politics as well as other aspects of society. And yes, Trump has said some pretty nasty things that make me uncomfortable, but so has Hillary and her surrogates. But for me, personality is near the bottom of the priority list, at least in this election, because I feel that policy is so much more important in this time in our country's history. Those of us who voted for Trump feel that a continuation of the policies of the last eight plus years (yes, some of Bush's too) have to stop.

So I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. But nobody expected the results we got, so maybe we'll all be pleasantly surprised. *hugs*
