I had a pretty good turnout of trick-or-treaters at my house tonight, and I almost had to delve into my "reserve" (read: crappy) candy! But not quite. :-P The first kid showed up around 6:30 and the last one was at 9:05. The whole time I was watching classic Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes. :-D There were a lot of groups this year... I think my neighborhood is a popular drop-off spot since the houses are only eight feet apart. :-P Whatever - I don't mind! It's cool to see all the little kids dressed up. Even if some of them just hold out their bags and wait for me to throw some candy in. What, a simple "Trick or treat?" is asking too much? >=( By the way, note to the two kids who showed up around 8:30: a t-shirt with a number on it and a football is not a costume!
I was very glad that this year I didn't have any deadbeat parents show up. I was really disappointed with them last year... These are the folks who stand behind their kids on your porch and watch as you hand out candy. Then, after the kids turn to leave and you start to close the door, they sheepishly hold out their own bag. "Uh, trick or treat?" they mumble. WTF - how OLD are you!? Last year it happened four times, and each time the parents weren't even in costume! I gave them candy - what the hell, they ARE sacrificing their dignity after all!
Phoebe freaked out whenever someone rang the doorbell, of course! If I'd have let her, she would've charged right out the door and tried to lick everyone she could. :-P Such a friendly dog! But most people probably wouldn't like that... She did get quite a few "Awww!"s :-P
Yes, that is a ghost in the background, behind the tree... He's cool, though! I have a good system going now. I scoop Phoebe up in one arm and use the other to hand out candy from a bowl on a shelf near the door. I used to offer the bowl and say "Take the one you want!" but no one would listen and I had kids scooping 5 or 6 treats into their bag! And what're you supposed to do then, take them back? Bastards. :-P
Haha, I sound like a crotchety old man. >=) Next thing you know, I'll be giving out toothbrushes or boxes of raisins! Maybe even pennies - yep, they used to do that in my old neighborhood! Screw that... I gave out the GOOD stuff! Snickers, Kit Kats, Butterfingers, Twix, M&Ms, and Milky Ways. Hell yeah!
