I use Intuit Quickbase at work and I was thinking about using a similar method to keep track of all the crazy amounts of files I have on my three external hard drives. when i was in middle school, so from 1998-2001ish, my friends and i all had these websites that I believe were connected to AOL (but i may be making that up?).  On them, we'd find doll graphics that we'd designate to each of our friends.
