I read this in the 80's and it came up in conversation recently but no one I've asked can remember the name, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
The book was about a girl in the 1950's who ran away from home to be a movie star but she gets caught up with some skeevy older man who tries to get her to marry him. I don't remember how it ends, but I vaguely remember them driving across country in his big 1950's car and staying at roadside motels, she had to keep pushing off his advances. It was an uncomfortable read.
I think the book cover had a girl wearing a white shirt, skirt and red scarf around her neck standing by a jukebox with a man nearby? I always thought it was a Judy Blume book but after looking at her bibliography, it seems that it wasn't.
