Hey Guys,

There was this story I remember hearing about in English class in high school--I don't know if it was a fictional tale from something or if this was an account of a real historical event (god, I hope not). Let me know if you know the name of the story, because I'd like to consult it again.

Basically, in medieval times, there was a powerful guy who only had a daughter. The guy gets kidnapped by his enemy and the enemy writes to the daughter saying he'd release her father if she would give him her hand and thereby unite their lands on her father's death. She agrees and the father gets released. A few days later, the enemy gets a box with her severed hand in it and a note from her saying that she kept her part of the bargain--she gave him her hand.

Any ideas what this story is called and where it came from?
