There was a book I read as a child where a bird either has no feathers or its feathers aren't colorful and it's sad about being plain, so other birds decide to help by each donating a single feather. Enough birds give away a feather that the bird getting them becomes the most beautiful bird ever. Then the bird becomes extremely arrogant. It may have been a bilingual book (Spanish and English), and the pictures were simplistic and colorful. Possibly it was Mexican folklore, and I'm misremembering it as being bilingual.

Can anyone identify this book?
