anime(?) cartoon movie of the 80s/90s
I would have watched this in the years 1992-1999 in the USA. I remember renting it pretty often from the Korean video store on my corner (it was in English on VHS, if that helps....) Anyway, I don't remember enough about it to find it successfully through google.
What I do remember:
There is either a little boy or a little girl.
I THINK he is on his bed through much of the movie; the bed, which is a gold 4 poster, magically travels or something. (No, it's not Bedknobs&Broomsticks.)
He is trying to escape some kind of monster or black thing that has tentacles that follows him. I think at one point they might go to the Grand Canyon, but I could be confusing the bed and stuff it with something else. Most of the movie takes place in some kind of old victorian house or palace. All I know for sure is in one scene, he is on the bed in his pajamas, and the black thing is rising up under the bed and pushing it towards the ceiling. Again, I'm not sure if the bed plays a prominent part in the rest of the movie, just that it's in that one scene.
I think it's anime, but I'm not really sure. It was probably scary, because I liked movies that scared me, but again I don't really know.
Hopefully somebody can make some sense of my random memories?
I've been searching lists of animated movies in the US in the 90s to see if the plots sound familiar for days :/
