I think this was out of a book, I want to say an autobiography, does anyone recognize this scene?:
Remembering back when the narrator was a child in NYC -maybe in the 30's- walking along 5th avenue or something with his dad around christmas time because his dad always brought him to get him a present. This year his dad only had like 75 cents or something and they went cart to cart and the father kept offering things he could afford and the son kept seeing things he wanted but knew his dad couldn't afford them
