And NONE of the 'dead' characters from the battle are mentioned in the epilogue. "It's been so many years without Remus..." or whatever. Not a drop.I think that's part of what bothered me about Snape's death. Sure, there was the whole expositional chapter just after it, and Harry calling him 'Dumbledore's man' but there was no actual emotional reaction. No one even recovered the body. I know there wasn't time, so to speak, because the book ended with Harry wanting quiet time. But it hit me today that there won't be a next book where people deal with Snape's death, or discuss it. I'd love to have heard what Ron had to say about Snape's goodness, you know, listening to Harry and then saying, 'But he was still a complete git!' or 'I can't believe he fancied your Mum!' Oh, well, I suppose it's for the fandom now

"We recommend not telling anyone you're alive until after the Memorial service," says George. "That way, you get to hear all the nice things people say about you...."
"And see which of the pretty girls cry the most," adds Fred with a lecherous grin.
I don't agree with everything above, but with a lot of it, and that bit was just brilliant. I'm going to steal it (and credit you, of course), if I ever need the twins again. :-)
And unfortunately, I think that Remus WAS one of the spirits that Harry saw during his walk to the forest. But I've accounted for that in my denial fic, just posted at lupin_snapeYes, wasn't it interesting that Snape was the only one to have died in vain, to have been killed pointlessly? None of us have ever been able to keep up with JKR. Totally unexpected, as was the last bit about the wands and how Harry ended up defeating but not killing LV. I don't think anyone could have foreseen that

Ok, I'm just going to point people at your entry since I couldn't have said it better myself and I agree with everything. (well except Ginny, but you know that already.)
I loved that Sev became canon, but I don't think he would tolerate it from anyone else. He loved Lily and she was his best friend and he lost her. I think if anyone else tried to call him that, he'd hex them most painfully.
I'm going to be completely honest here, because it bothers me so much to see the way so many people are reacting to the way JKR handled Remus/Tonks in DH -
I was thrilled to see that scene in Grimmauld Place, where the thought of hurting Tonks and their child was so upsetting, so terrifying for him that he lost control in a way that we have NEVER seen him lose control before. I've long accepted that Remus isn't a public-display-of-affection character. He doesn't NEED to kiss her publicly, or run his fingers through her hair, or tell her that he loves her every two seconds (which is about as long as we seen Remus and Tonks together in DH, through Harry's eyes) in order to truly love her and be the best husband he can be. It would really be against his character, who's held everything inside for his entire life, to let that sort of emotion out

Remus, on the other hand, like I said, who had known love so rarely and who thought that part of him was so unlovable that no one could possibly love him the way Tonks did, would have never 'shared' this love with anyone else. Not because he was selfish, but because perhaps he thought that if they told too many people, if it became public knowledge that everyone knew how much he was loved, it would diminish what they had. It was something private for him -- he was, after all, a very private character. And it was a love that was between two people, intense and so real that the thought that he would hurt that woman he loved caused the only time we ever, in five books, see him lose control

It was a very sucky way for them to die, and your support of the 'ship is very eloquent and well-reasoned. That's the one thing that completely gives me hope and happiness that the 'fandom' in general is not dead, despite the killing of so many important characters. JKR left so much open and vague for interpretation that everyone can easily find/make support for their favourite 'ships.
I'm glad you posted this, because I really have been pretty irritated with how JKR wrote Tonks from HBP-on. This makes me feel better that there is a 'better light' to see her in. :)
