It's been a while since I've had anything substantial to say, but even the large, flaccid, and inert critters of nature can be provoked to roar and take action, as anyone who's witnessed a hippo attack will agree. And if I am the hippo in this tale, so be it: I will bellow and overturn canoes and send swimmers panicking for the shore as necessary.

When the stress biscuit of work gets too big to gnaw on effectively, I often find myself reaching for a familiar work to re-read.  This past week was one of those biscuit-growing weeks, so sure enough, I've pulled out an old favorite:  The Many-Colored Land, the first volume of Julian May's four-volume Saga of Pliocene Exile.

In addition to the pair of Cinematic Titanic DVDs I scored from spuffyduds , I was also gifted with another nice present with which to annoy visitors, this one from my dad:  an Ovation acoustic guitar.  He got a good deal on a used 1612 with a hard case, and I'm quite delighted to now own an acoustic that can be quickly plugged into any amp if you need ( Read more... )
