I've tried to watch the Vampire Diaries, and I think I finally get why I can't. It's not that I have a hatred of problematic romances... it's that none of the characters seem to be trying to accomplish anything other than live from day to day.

I'm almost afraid to broach this subject because there is a lot of knee-jerk "if it's sexist, it shouldn't exist" without much examination of what's going on to make it sexist in the first place. I've been talking about the art of writing for the past three days. It somehow went from the problem of not getting enough comments to how to punch up your fic to the different types of foreshadowing.

My only regret is that it totally threadjacked this poor chick's secret.
