Heh, realized something about myself.

So, I've been very active on places like Fanficrants and Fandom Secrets, and you'd think that that would mean that:
a) I'm an angry, bitter person with a lot of secrets... (not true)
b) I like watching train wrecks... (okay, maybe a bit... er.. yeah)

but the real reason is

c) I've been using them to meta in the comments and build a philosophy of writing.

I've been listening to people's gripes and assessing whether they have worth, or if they don't appear to on the surface, if they are indications of a deeper issue. What audience expectations are. And I gotta say, it's damn useful. I mean, everything everyone says has to be taken with a grain of salt. Some people have writing philosophies that are diametrically opposed to mine and are based not on gauging and understanding audience reaction but on some other agenda. But on the whole I've been getting into some great meta conversations.

Even the chick who was adamant that you can tell Megatron is a top based on his personality and that no amount of good writing can change that has helped me solidify my thoughts on how writing works.

meta, commentary, writing
