Hi everyone!
I've been lurking around for a while.
I'm vegetarian, and in that transition phase to becoming vegan. I have to say it's one of the best choices I've made, and I feel so great mentally and physically. I have a few questions for all of you though. I'll cut because
.
I've grown up in an Italian family, and when I decided to stop eating meat my family was very supportive. My mom always makes sure when she's cooking that she sets pasta to the side before she adds meat sauce, and that there are plenty of veg. alternatives to meat in the house when I'm over for dinner (which happens 2-3 times a week). But no one in my family really understands veganism, and with the amount of dairy products my mom uses in her pastas, etc. the only thing I can ask of her is to put some cooked pasta to the side for me. Are there any yummy vegan cheeses I can put in her fridge for when I eat there? I'm already using vegan gourmet cheeses (and love it!), but they don't shred very easily. Something firmer in texture would be great.
Also, I live right outside of Austin, Texas in a town called Round Rock. While there are plenty of veggies around here, it's hard to find many vegans for advice on restaurants, stores, etc. I hate having to drive to Whole Foods in Austin for my grocery shopping, and the farmers market they were having here in town once a month seems to have dissappeared. Any Austin/Round Rock area vegans around here that know of some secret shopping spots?
Finally, I just got a wok for Christmas. Any yummy stir fry recipes you could share?
Thanks so much! You have all been such a great source of information for me! :)
